Wow.  Nice ones guys, and thanks for the comments!

The Delrin on that 31 looks great SG!  They knew how to do them right in the 70's.  There's something about that pattern....

Dean, love the railsplitter.  Is that one SS or D2 steel?

Thanks!!!!!  Like most of these, it has backsprings that would put put a GEC to shame!  :sa:

Mine qualifies as "bear trap".  However, it's still not as difficult to pull as my #73 Northfield.

Man, I can't imagine!!!!!!   :sa: :sa: :sa:

You're an old hand at this stuff so you probably know this already, but the 73's and the 23's that have a lanyard hole have lighter pulls than the reg models. That is the only way I was able to own 23's was by only considering the lanyard hole versions.

Yeah, I've read that, but I don't have experience with the ones with lanyard holes.  I was warned before I bought my 73, but was still surprised when I got it.  Luckily, I have fairly strong hands and healthy fingernails.  I'll admit I still don't carry it as much as I should because of the pull.  It's great for longer jobs where you can just leave it open while you're working, and it's nice to know there's no freakin' way it will fold on you, even though it's a slipjoint.  You know how folks always rate pull on a 1-10 scale?  Well, my 73 established a "new 10" for me! They sure are beautiful patterns though!  I will be sure to carry mine at least once during this challenge just so I can look at it and take some nice pics.  ;)

That one is pretty enough that I don't feel so bad!  :D  It looks like the blades have been "cleaned up" a bit, but that '77 Barehead Jack still looks to be in great shape, with very little wear to the main blade and lots of character!!

Day 8

Just got this one, a Case CV Mini Trapper in yellow Delrin. Sittin' here on my picture rock with a KSF pocket slip (this is what I normally carry my traditional knives in, I usually just don't put it in the photo).

May it be as the Pattern has chosen.

I decided that I'm going to put the Schrade back in the drawer and switch to my Frost Uncle Lucky.  It's a little bigger, and it won't bother me as much if I break it.

Thanks guys! I was trying to decide between the normal and mini trapper, ended up going with the small one because it's easier to pocket, so I figure I'm more likely to carry it. Plus, it has half stops. I wonder why they don't put those on the full size trapper?

Well, you guys are enablers.  After seeing all the 8OT pics, I looked for an American made (I do not buy Chinese Taylor Schrades) 8OT, or its close relative, the supposedly rare 89OT "Blazer", which, instead of a plain edged sheepsfoot, has a slightly longer sheepsfoot with Schrade's serrated "Wonda-Edge" blade.   Cost me $15, which was the same as the cheapest USA made 8OT, and less than a new (garbage) Taylor.  Seller's pic.

As for today, I carried the Case Trapper again, but I also carried this a little this afternoon to clear some weeds around the newspaper box at the end of the gravel road that leads to the main road from my house.  It's a Klein Tools (Utica Kutmaster) made hawkbill that was originally issued by Pittston Coal to a coworker of my grandfather at the Jewell Ridge mine. It had been dropped on the ground, and when my grandfather picked it up, the story goes, it had actually been run over by a piece of mining equipment. And it wasn't hurt, except for a slightly warped blade!   Forget Schrade Tough, this knife is Utica Tough!  My grandfather's, which he was also issued, by the way is still minty. He never carried it.  Most of his former coworkers still carry theirs.

I've always liked camp knives, maybe because my first knife was an official 3 blade cub scout knife.
When I first got out on my own a scout knife & a P 38 were my only can openers.
