Day 14:

The wind shifted to the West and the smoke cleared out. I'm not sure what is going on with the fire--there is a shocking lack of updated information--but we were able to remain at home last night. (Other people down wind were evacuated.) So, no need to 'bug out' at the moment. If we do, this Dan Stucky folder will be stuck in my pocket. It has proven itself on a few adventures already....

(Image removed from quote.)

Glad to hear you're all fine!
I hope the fires will be out soon and no one gets hurt!

Dan who? Another miracle made in Oregon?

Day 14

I’ve been using this ultra-light belt carry tool kit today to tighten up screws in my kitchen which mysteriously seem to work their way loose over time! The extra bit sets mean I rarely encounter a fastener that can’t be tightened with this kit on hand - certainly more compact than my many full sized tool sets, and more versatile than the Victorinox SwissTool Spirits I’ve come to recently. This is an early version of the Charge Tti which I had a real job tracking down and doubtless cost me more than was sensible especially adding the accessories, but it has come in very handy when travelling or on holiday and needing to make running repairs. Doubtless it’ll help crack open a beer or two later after I’ve re-oiled the garden table and washed my MTBs!

The LM bits are very useful and compact  :like:

We're getting a little rain! It's not expected to last long but even a brief shower can be a big help for the fire crews out trying to contain the fires. Yeah...there's more than one....

I met Dan Stucky at a knife show. He's a really nice guy and has exactly the right amounts of attention to detail and OCD that you want in a knife maker.  :tu:

Thanks Sos  :salute:

True, it was a common feature, there are quite a few knives with full flat and sabre grinds too. Wherever  the influence came from it has certainly lasted, Buck still use it to this day.
 :)  :salute:

It's interesting how many different interpretation I heard over the years about that fuller, some said it was blood groove but I never quite bought that.  Other would say it imitates historical weapon(the i-beam theory)--it would make a lot of sense for a long weapon to save weight and primary function is chopping(like a Samurai sword) but not sure it is applicable to a shorter 4"-7" knife.  Some claim it reduce drag when skinning, but there are enough data to seem to support this.  Nonetheless, I think it's now part of the cutlery history/tradition, and it's certainly cool to look at.

Day 14
One of my favourite SAK patterns is the Climber.
The first SAK I owned given by my dad was an original Traveller, which is basically a Climber without keyring.

This is a late 70s example of one that was well used over the last 40 something years... and still is today  ;)

Go to bed for a few hours and miss so much on this thread.  Many beautiful knives and some great stories.

Glad you are still able to be home.  Hopefully the rain will help and give some reprieve for the crews.

Day14
Since today is the 245th birthday of the United States Army and I didn't do an army knife photo for Memorial Day I present to you the Plumb 1917 Bolo.

I bought this knife in the early 90s, even took it camping a few times when I was young, stupid and didn't realize the collectability of old military knives.

And yes that is the 1980s Army cold weather sleeping bag it is sitting on...Simple Story I was at the Houston Airshow in 2014. We needed chairs, picnic blanket or something and there was everybody was sold out and I saw this at the Junior ROTC fundraiser surplus booth

DAY 14
Took this pic on my way out of work today after getting everything off my belt I was wearing from previous jobs in the day.  Whenever I have to hike into a utility right of way that has gone from one mountain to the next (especially when I'm the only one in the area working on the weekend), I take one of two knives which are setup similar in use (ESEE 5 and 6), and I throw a pack on my back with the basics of first aid/food/water just in case something happens and it takes a while to find me.  (These are areas where cellphone coverage just doesn't reach).  So I thought I'd take a picture of one of these setups on my way out of work.  Today I was carrying my ESEE 6 while following a line down through a valley between mountain tops, way off the beaten path.   I added TKC sheaths to both of my ESEE knives and love 'em.  Also, I keep a smaller RAT II folder made of D2 steel in this setup.

Day 14

In recognition of Flag Day, a picture of a DPX HEST Urban folder.anodized by USAMadeBlade.

This knife has a stout 3in blade with a couple of interesting features that are not normally found on many modern single blade folders
- The knife will also open using a blade notch designed to work like an Emerson Wave, thumb stud, as forward flipper, or flick of wrist
- blade notch doubles as bottle opener
- 1/4” bit driver built into handle.  It actually holds the bit well and works pretty good
- Glass breaker. The screw that holds the reversible pocket clip is a tungsten carbide glass breaker, a potential life saving tool in the event of an auto accident or fire.
- The blade jimping is sized to also be used as wire stripper

Today I'm carrying a Cold Steel original tanto Voyager in VG-1 steel.  Though not nearly as robust as the current Voyager models, I prefer the classic look and thin profile of the original flavor.

Day 15.

One of my friends' last names is Turley, so I'm gonna have to get that TOPS for him. I've been persuing my local knife store's selection of small TOPS fixed blades online as of late. I like a small, slim fixed blade. While small, they are quite strong and capable. And, much easier to clean, especially with the TOPS stock Kydex sheath.

How's that money clip? To me, they look quite sturdy for being cheap knives; and I've seen them pretty cheaply through some promo places that have no minimums, and they can be ordered blank. I am still thinking about getting one that I will use as a money clip. I seemed to have misplaced the old Sharp Japan "Golfer" money clip knife I had, and I use the Victorinox Money Clip Ambassador as a pocket clip.
