Day 18 (bonus action and commentary):

This particular knife reminds me a lot of Tom Brown Tracker.

I think the larger version would remind you of the Tracker even more. Obviously, this one just has a single edge over the whole curve and no saw teeth on the spine. Jim Behring, the designer, has a background in custom hunting knives. I think this knife is a tactical take on a skinner. Or that's the way it looks to me.

Curious one this. It looks like to be designed to provide more pressure onto the blade at cutting?  :dunno:

The back of the spine is wide and flat, before the raised swedge. This provides a great spot to place a thumb and direct a lot of pressure downward toward the edge.  Also provides good control.

The choil is functional, too. I can get my index finger in the choil for more control with precise cutting.

The whole knife is so solid that I think you could apply a huge amount pressure into a cut with good control. The wide curving blade is good for slicing meat and I think would make a good skinner. I don't think this would be a great bushcrafting choice, but it carves pretty nicely.

Today was hummus making day: the Pathfinder trimmed and peeled garlic and sliced up a few lemons. The garlic never stood a chance. The lemons are big enough that the slice starts to turn into a wedging action. But I still got nice even cuts all the way through.

Day 18:

This is a bit out of the ordinary for me:

(Image removed from quote.)

This is a Pathfinder, the smaller version of two similar designs, by Treeman Knives.  It is got a 4.25" blade made from 1/4" O-1 tool steel. It is incredibly well made, with superb fit and finish. While it starts out being 1/4" at the spine, the deep hollow grind over a broad blade gives it a keen edge and cutting profile. It came with a high-ride sheath that makes it surprisingly easy to wear, although it is a bit heavy.

I've used this knife a fair bit, but I have to say I think it's a knife I admire more than I love. For me, it is not quite as instinctive to use as some other more traditional knives.
You keep showing awesome knives

Some of my fixed blades

1st pic Kershaw Boot Knife and Böker Steel Ranger
2nd pic Böker Arbolito and Browning
Nice selection of Fixies

Day 18
This is my Yeoman mod made from a compact and an old explorer... the rest became a Climber and was given away  :)

It's getting used frequently... not only for office type situations...

I love the Yeoman toolset.  Nice Yellow scales, too.

Day 18 Hultafors Precision and Gerber Multi Lite

(Image removed from quote.)

Nice combo.  I love the blue color scale for the light.

DAY 18

This is my only Chinese made Buck , the little Solo. Not a bad little knife and I often carry it and use it for small work.

5CF74BD9-8E3C-4019-BDAD-A13502F265E1 by Duncan Moore, on Flickr
Nice little knife.  I wasn’t aware that Buck had knives being made in China.  It shouldn’t be a surprise considering most USA knife manufacturers are doing it.

Day 18: My little collection of the Pioneer X.
Left to right, a user MTO 2016 knife of the year, a user factory silver w/o keyring, a collector MTO unused with presentation box, a backup factory silver still with keyring, and a Bob Lessard custom Urban Pioneer bought a couple of years before the PX was released.

Nice selection.  The PX is a handy SAK

Day 14: Bladeless MP600 Pro Scout with Pocket Clip

(Image removed from quote.)

(Image removed from quote.)

This is my latest mod, I finished it last night. This is also my very first Gerber multitool, and it was the gateway drug that got me into this website and into multitools and knives in general. I think I paid $15 for it on eBay. After using it a while, I realized I really needed the large flat driver that the basic model has. First I got rid of the can opener, added the screwdriver and swapped in the plain edged blade from the basic model.  I used it like that for a good long while... then I took the file to the grinder and gave it an edge on the tip, and then finished it on a whetstone. So now I have a gasket scraper blade on the tool. I needed a wood saw as well, so i searched around for some new jigsaw blades, and settled on some milwaukee bi-metal blades. I cut one so it was the maximum length it could fit in the tool, and then painted the cut edges. After a while I realized I always carried a knife, and my girlfriend's can opener sucked, so I swapped the can opener back in and got rid of the plain edged blade I had swapped in.

Then I started collecting other gerber tools, and put a clip on one of them and a Gerber Diesel saw in it, and that became my EDC for a long time. I decided I wasn't going to use any of my other MP600s unless they had pocket clips, so I've slowly been adding clips to all those tools. And it was about time I added one to my original first multitool, so I'll actually carry and use it again!

Charles

Very cool mod.

Day 18

Fox Forest 578

This was my dirty work knife before I had the Endura. I still use it sometimes.

Looks like it has definitely gotten some use

Day 18

The purple Leatherman Juice XE6.  This is a tough little multiool that has seen a lot and always reminds me of a hard working ship on a very hard working deployment with one of the best crews.

The Juice was purchased in a small little shop in Port of Fujairah, UAE in November 2001.  I was on the USS SACRAMENTO (AOE 1) a Naval resupply ship that would pull into Fujairah about every 7-10 days after passing all our supplies to various ships that needed them.  We would transit in at sunrise and transit out at sunset, loading as much fuel and supplies as we could in between.  After a few trips in, the Commanding Officer heard that there was a little store and sandwich shop real close to the pier.  He worked out to allow a handful of people off the ship at a time for about an hour.  On my one trip ashore, I bought the Juice and a CD.  It is amazing what a few minutes shopping can do to the moral of Sailors, especially when it is the only time ashore in 103 days with 106 underway replenishments of ships from various countries and even a couple submarines.  That Juice spent a lot of time on my belt during the rest of that deployment and my time in the Navy.  It is a little banged up and not as durable as some of the heavier duty tool, but everything still works and it will always have a place in my collection.

African spear, possibly from the Sudan, possibly even taken back after Lord Kitchener's campaign. It's rather beautiful to hold... although I often do wonder what poor sods been on the wrong end of it.

So, true.

And I agree about the Juice. No as robust as some, but being so easy to carry, it makes a great EDC tool.

I know.

It puts me in mind of my favourite poem... ahem...

There's a breathless hush in the close tonight
Ten to make and the match to win
A bumping pitch and a blinding light
An hour to play and the last man in
And it's not for the sake of a ribboned coat
Or the selfish hope of a season's fame
But his Captain's hand on his shoulder smote
Play up! play up! and play the game!

The sand of the desert is sodden red
Red with the wreck of a square that broke
The Gatling's jammed and the Colonel dead
And the regiment blind with dust and smoke
The river of death has brimmed it's banks
And England's far, and Honour a name
But the voice of a schoolboy rallies the ranks
Play up! play up! and play the game!

This is the word that year by year
While in her place the School is set
Every one of her sons must hear
And none that hears it dare forget
This they all with a joyful mind
Bear through life like a torch in flame
And falling fling to the host behind
Play up! play up! and play the game!

DAY 18
Here's a pic of my favorite folding saw...  The BAHCO Laplander.  Between this and my Estwing hatchet, I've cleared quite a many new trails that I ride.  Lightweight and reliable saw.
They say the pen is mightier than the sword.   However... there is a dead guy here with a Bic in his hand and a Samurai walking away.

We had a similar poem that was popular when playing a drinking game involving a pair of dice, a large drinking horn, and two ping pong paddles. I never understood the rules......

Day18

A big Chopper.
This is the Aranyik Etoh, pictured with some past knives I didnt bother to move. This big blade is hand forged in Thailand and sold as a heavy machete ment for wood processing...which would class it similar to a froe or nata axe.
My last place had a fireplace and this was my go to for small splitting and kindleing. I would take this over most small hatchets any day.  The handle is oversized; you can get a one and a half grip on it and I've seen people mod them with longer.
I used to be a lot of things, and someday will again.
But for now I'm just a lost jack of trades with neither mastery nor home. ~NoaIsumi
