Day 2

If I had a hammer

I normally carry a PBMT and/or SAK so good opportunity to test the “Jeremy Clarkson MT for all occasions“, the hammer

Fence needed a fix, it actually worked pretty well but I did miss the length and weight of a proper hammer, took multiple blows to get the job done, but done it is

So far then, does what it’s supposed to

my knuckles hurt just thinking about it, but I'm glad it did what it was supposed to do.

Yes I did nearly have to revert to the proper claw hammer Alan but persevered and got it done

:like:
I kinda like this. I'd rather be using that than the Flik.  :ahhh
I am actually the other way around, I think I'd prefer the Flik since the weight is much lower and more manageable. :D

Day 01
The Gerber MP-600. I've never liked it because the tools are short for a full size tool and it is uncomfortable for me to carry it.  Here the sliding pliers are seen withdrawn and deployed.
I tend to pocket carry everything too, but for this MP600, I'd try to make sure the pliers are pointing up instead of down, and need to make a mental note everytime I reach in the pocket to grab it...

That's a good sized tool you have there Comis  (I'll just leave that one hanging... )
I haven't worn a suspender for years, maybe it's time to dig it out for this occasion.

Fair enough, comis.

The length of the list of potential mods at the end of 30 days will be a good indication of my acceptance of the S557.   ;)

I kinda look forward to your list by the end of this, personally, I love my swisschamp and that love carries over to its relative from Delemont.

I hope to be won over  :dunno: :

That's a lofty goal.  I'll settle for not throwing mine in the river at the end of the month.

Day 2 of 30

A little awl (pun intended) usage today :woohoo: It worked well at making some holes in a couple bottles at work for making some squirt bottles for wetting some polymeric sand down but still at odds with the way you have to unlock :ahhh Still the awl was sharp and did what I needed it to :tu:

Daredevil Day 2: If the knife is the most commonly used tool, it requires you to be a bit of a daredevil.  The slot in the blade that makes it one handed doesn't equal a Spyderco.  It would be fairly easy to run your thumb down the edge if you aren't careful.  The lock works very well and the blade was sharp out of the box.

I used the TripSaver to pull some staples this morning. I found that the handles close too closely together and needed to shift the tool to my fingertips during the process. But I was able get the job done.

Close in that regard. There is just enough space that I probably won't get a blood blister. Unless the locking tab at the end of the handle gets me.

Day 2

Trying to see how a short fixed blade could be fitted onto a cargo pants, one good thing about the Wetols is the ability to take on regular hex bit.  The magnets at the end directly contacts the bit end, and probably will be crushed over time.

Day 1
Put the Minimaster to use to cut some paracord doing a mod on my dog’s harness.  Also used the scissors to cut open a popsicle.

Fisher is one lucky dog, I remembered you had been fine tuning the harness for him more than once.  And popsicle!  I need one!

Good use and love the spirit! :tu:   Such is the dilemma for a 'hammer' MT like this, too heavy and no one wants to carry it, too light it doesn't get the job done easily.

Is the opening hole well chamfered like the Victorinox 111mm?  Maybe by the end of the challenge, you could do a mod to rough up the opening hole slightly, and it may make the opening a bit easier?

I am glad I never get a blood blister from a MT just yet, can't imagine we actually have a badge for that! :sa:

Nice to have a 1/4 inch bit driver even if the magnet has a chance to be messed up

Comis, I hang my Brisa EnZo necker 70 from my belt at the 5 O'clock position with the sheath going into my back pocket.  This keeps it unobtrusive and prevents it getting caught on anything, but mine came with the leather sheath.  I added a dangler so it sits deeper and just the end of the knife sticks out of the pocket.  I'd also suggest looking into the KSF pocket sheath.

Day 02
When I decided to get an MP600 I had to make sure I got one that came with scissors.  Most of them do not.  So, I ended up getting the MP600 Pro-Scout model.  One of the selling features for me was that it comes with a blade exchanger similar to that on the Leatherman Surge for the saw blade, and the RemGrit blade it comes with is supposed to cut through anything.  I thought that was a very cool idea.  Unfortunately, it doesn't really cut anything.  Instead, it abrades through the material and requires considerable effort to do so. Definitely not in the same category as the Victorinox saws I'm used to.

I think that the Remgrit saw would fair much better on metal than wood :-\ At least you can always buy jigsaw blades that will definitely cut wood better :tu:

This was the official issue for work, a number of years ago (I got one  :tu: )
We then had a trial of various other MTs (2011/12) and I was lucky enought to get the OG Surge  :woohoo:

Needless to say, being a Govt' Dept' the cheaper option was chosen and the Gerber Suspension was selected  ::)
I was able to keep the Surge and it has been brilliant but, like me, is looking a bit tired now  :surrender:

That's why I got my B/O Surge and will "substitute it" after I've "substituted" the OHT for this challenge

I miss my Swiss Champ already.   :(  I'm planning to piggyback on the end of the Go BIG Challenge next month with it.

We'll see what the month brings for the S557. It just needs to sell me on the usefulness of the wrench.

Alan, thanks for the suggestion and I will love into KSF for different alternatives. :tu:

Btw, if you like Necker70, I would really encourage to consider this bobtail sometime in the future.  FFG on this knife is slicey, and the short handle fits the hand even better than necker.  The kydex offers a very positive click-in feedback which is great.

That's a slight bummer, I kept looking at that saw when I was considering carry that tool, thinking how well does it do, now I kinda know.

A thought I’ve had regarding cargo pocket carry is a thin flexible molle panel sized to the pocket.  I got the idea from Raven Concealment.  This would allow attaching various tools interchangeably, but keep all in a easy grip orientation.  I just haven’t found the right material at the right pr

Fisher is one lucky dog, I remembered you had been fine tuning the harness for him more than once.  And popsicle!  I need one!
This is a new style one.  Instead of being all paracord, it has a front panel with pocket for a cooling pack if desired during the hot summer.

The Minimaster blade helped cut some fat wood for making coffee on my twig stove.  The knife and slot driver also helped change the air filter.
