Day 15

Brick: 1   John: Nil

Managed to trip over Coco and bash my toe into a brick. Hoping badly bruised rather than broken, had two broken toes about a year ago and had to wear a giant boot.

Made life very difficult as living alone, apart from Coco of course, means I have to be mobile. Wearing the boot put my back out and in some ways created more problems than it solved.

I’ve still got the boot but will try to keep going with it strapped up as per pics below. So far doing fine, it’s a bit sore if I try to bend it so obviously don’t bend it!

Yes, these were some big ones.  It is amazing how they can differ in size.  I will have to ask the produce person if it's a location thing.

Trekker RT helped with all the taping for the delivery food, doing one meal a day has now become a routine and I surely grow a lot more appreciative for the food I eat for dinner each night.

Since we have reached half-time, I think it's high time to state that I really, really like 111 mm SAKs in general and the Hercules in particular. If you can fit them in your pocket - and I for one can - they beat 91 mm SAKs in almost every respect (provided they are legal carry).

Considering what a disaster the GAK was during last year's Soldier challenge, I have to admit I am a bit surprised how infinitely much better the Hercules suits me. The slide lock, the absence of the stupid OHO mechanism and the toolset - which is actually useful in everyday city life - really make a HUGE difference.

What's your verdict on 111 mm so far?

I enjoyed reading your thoughts.   :tu:
I like the 111mm way more than I thought I would.  I'm partial to the Outrider and Hercules.
My Hercules has a slide-lock (which I prefer) so I'm set there, but last night I bought a slide-lock Outrider and it is in route.

I got it from "How I met your mother". I thought it was general knowledge.

What's your verdict on 111 mm so far?

I love the big 111mm's.  :tu:

Great toolsets and the larger knife blade (my most commonly used tool) just seems a bit more useful and easier to use. I appreciate the larger grip, as well. For me, the grip is nearly as important as the blade. So the 111mm's are a big step up.

However.......they are not as comfortable to carry. I think....for my 'lifestyle'....the 91mm's hit the sweet spot. The Classic and the Executive are great knives that cover most of my EDC needs; but the 91's give me a few more tool options in a very pocketable form factor.

The 91's/93's have the same size openers (for practicable purposes), the scissors and pliers are also the same size. The big in-line Phillips is the same size. The 111mm's really shine with their bigger knives and saws. On the other hand, I've found myself wishing for a small pen blade a couple of times. Sure the 111mm blade did the job, and well, but sometimes a small pen blade just fits the bill.

So.....for day-to-day carry, the 91's probably work best for me.
