 :surrender:

I've returned from afar.  I've been having internet troubles since Day 4.  I was unable to log on on Day 5 and 6, and here I am back on Day 7.

If you'll permit me... I'll upload my posts from the last few days and catch up.   :hatsoff:

Day 6 catching up

Used the awl to pop some packing material... I hate to pop these because I always feel like I am turning a useful thing into trash... but I haven't had any use for these lately.

Day 8: a big mail call.

First is an A. Wright and Son Lambsfoot. This replaces a 1950s Taylor's Eye Witness I lost this past summer. All I can say is that the Wright is SO much better. The wood is finished nicely, the blade is perfectly centered, and the backspring tension is just right. My favorite farm work knife (along with 111mm SAKs and the LM Rebar and ST300) is the Lambsfoot. Opinels and Sodbusters have too much belly in the blade at the tip (since they're skinner-type blades), tactical folders I'm still lukewarm on, and anything with more than one blade can't be opened with gloves on.

KIMG3202 by cody6268, on Flickr

Then I opened a Medium Flat Rate box with the blade.

KIMG3204 by cody6268, on Flickr

Inside was a few assorted pieces that came from a member of another (actually knife-related) forum.  He asked that I pay $10 for the Case excavator, but asked that I just pay the cost of the shipping for the others.

Day 8

Haven’t had any uses so far but have finished sorting out the toolboxes for now, so happy with that.

Repurposed my dive box to keep it all in and put most used tools close at hand. Outrider on top

I might have missed it if someone has already commented on this, but does anyone (outside of this challenge) EDC a 111?  I don't know why I haven't carried mine more.  They're terrific knives, and really aren't too bulky.  I've taken to carry mine in the green Vic velcro sheath I picked up for the GAK.

I agree, Barry.

I think if it were not for all the challlenges, I'd EDC an Outrider more. Could easily be my daily SAK.  :tu:

They've been my primary work  and outdoor knives ever since I got the Swiss Soldier in 2015; and increasingly became EDCs. At first, they were too big. It wasn't until I got a Master RT (by mistake; due to an order snafu when a used Soldier was ordered) about a year and a half later that I started EDC'ing them. I was in a mechatronics class, and needed something that could cut rubber tubing, pry, drive screws, file metal, and open canned goods) and complement the TL-29 in my pocket and a real toolkit I carried in my backpack daily. Since I travelled there by a bus; I didn't want anything on my belt.  But, a 3-4 layer gives you a blade that is just shorter enough than the 110 (to get under many state 3.5" blade limits), while offering more tools at a similar weight. I am left-handed, and being able to close the blade one-handed with my left-hand is a really big deal.   When I got the Outrider, despite it not being one-hand opening, it was when I really started EDC'ing a 111mm.

Day 7: Bonus usage

The Hercules has really gotten a workout today. After eating lunch with it then coming to work, it has decimated several cardboard boxes, opened numerous parts packages and now a snack and dinner!

:iagree: Cody.  I originally got one for a hiking knife, but wound up using it, a GAK '08, for work.  As time went on, I started doing challenges and got away from the 111's.  I did the original 111 challenge with Nix a few years ago, and really liked that.  Now that I've carried the Hunter, I'm really considering picking up a few more.  I can definitely see a Herc or Workchamp in the future, as well as another Trekker or Outrider.

My uncle used to... I like to think it was because when I was a kid I wouldn't shut up about SAKs.  I haven't seen one in the wild since.  If I could go back in time, for all the years I carried a Leatherman Wave, (and before that, a folder) I should have carried a 111mm.  It would have done me more good.  Any more... it's too much for me to EDC,

Yeah, it was indeed a stash. Haha.  Had other food but wasn’t sure it was any good. Better safe than sorry, pitched it and ate the can of rings.  Haha

I usually pocket carry, so the 111’s are a bit much for that. If I’m out for a bike ride or a picnic (which happened  in the spring/summer with 2 young girls!), I would often take my Swiss soldier. Now that I’ve got the cheese knife it’ll go! I use my GAK for working, so I don’t use it on food. My others are pretty much shelf queens

I have carried various 111’s from time to time. My Centurion, GAK and Locksmith especially.

I have also carried my Hercules before this challenge. Not bad for work. Wouldn’t want to carry it out to dinner or movies. Does get a bit bulky. Still not that bad though.

The closest I've come to a large 111 is my son's Skipper.  It's big, but not unmanageable.  I wouldn't want to carry it in shorts during the summer though!

Day 2

Good morning everyone and thanks for being so inviting to a newbie like me  to the 111mm world. The more time I am spending with the outrider the more I am starting to like it.

But please see a small morning photo of the outrider in the Winelands. Used to open package of morning oats. Lets see how the day goes
