Day 21:

Collecting a few wasp nests from the underside of the outdoor furniture.

(Image removed from quote.)

Maybe Jackpine can confirm: I think wasp nests were used as wadding for use in flintlocks and cap locks. I'm gonna save these for that purpose, anyway.

Yes, I use wasp nest as over powder wad and also over shot or roundball (when running bare ball). Works great and probably was used back in the day from what I know.

Well, I figure I should give it a try.

I leave wasps be. They eat aphids. "The enemy of my enemy is my friend."  :D
Kill them all!  Purify them with fire and then burn their ashes.  Ladybugs kill aphids and they are more pleasant company.

Wasps don't bother me, but yellow jackets and those bald faced hornets have caused me too much pain. Show no mercy!

FYI- if you sneak up on a bald faced hornet nest and quicky slip a large trash bag over it and tie it shut (also quickly) they'll all be dead in a few days. Then you'll have an intact nest for arts and crafts or muzzleloader wads! This is best done on a cool morning.

Unless there is a large group of them on the nest, I normally dispatch wasps with my ball cap or with my side cutters.

For yellow jackets, I only take them on with a long range spray unless it is a solitary one buzzing around me.

This is how I handle a hornet:

Hours of boring Zoom meetings today.  Livened things up with my Evolution S17, scraping away all the mistakes in my notebook to make things look neater.

From the office to the outdoors, the SAK is such a useful companion!  You can use it to erase spelling mistakes or whittle a survival weapon or tent stake.  :like:

Day 21
Took my mother to the Dr. out of town today so I wasn’t planning any major use. I took the ‘64 with me to give it some pocket time. It obviously hasn’t seen much in its life. I did pick up a couple of things while waiting, so I cut the tag off.

Day 21

Bacon, sausage, HP sauce and tea...

(Image removed from quote.)

I'm annoyed I put the knife upside down though. Didn't notice until I'd finished eating...

Day 21

Varied use, but here's another food preparation pic

:iagree: I’ve done the same for my remotes too. :tu:

Day 21

Well that was a much busier morning than I planned…. Time for a fruity beer to relax, M61 BYSAK (from Myron :salute:) and look at the crossword which is what I had planned to do this morning!

Day 21

(Image removed from quote.)

Wenger Matterhorn.  Another truly unique offering from Wenger today, most tools are less commonly seen from Vic camp.  Whistle, serrated large blade, clip point small blade, short philips, dual phillips, carabiner and unsharpen awl.  Definitely one of the more unique Wengers I own.

Another great and unusual Wenger comis, been really enjoying seeing your collection  :like: :hatsoff:

Day 21: I picked up a new Cold Steel Tuff Lite and used the PTC's blade to cut the tape seals.

I have an older black handle one, but it came in a used lot; and had a damaged edge and bent tip. I ended up blunting the edge; so will probably end up having it professionally resharpened. In the meantime, since the Mini Tufflite is not an expensive knife to buy new, I bought a new one; this time in red.

I love the Mini Tuff Lite. It's a small knife that carries like a small knife, but it has the ergonomics of a full-sized folder in my medium hands when open, and it can take on big knife jobs.

MTO Delemont Day 21 by cody6268, on Flickr

I also noticed that Cold Steel appears to have moved from California to Grand Prarie, TX. This may be their new parent, GSM Outdoors, however. I'm honestly surprised Emerson hasn't left CA yet.

That looks cool Cody, kinda reminds me of my Mora Eldris  :like:

Day 22
October 22

Ever had those moments where you had to sell stuff from one hobby to be able to finance something in another hobby?

In this case, shipping out some Transformers from a couple of years back - hopefully it’ll help fund a new PBMT by…..Halloween? Christmas?

Finally got some lighter fluid in, Executive 81's nail file was used to pry up the tip to fill up this little guy for the first time  :tu:

Very cool! I'm sure my fall into the Wenger rabbit hole is bound to happen.

Awesome. They look to be in excellent shape, too.

That tiny gold thing is a lighter?

Day 21

Made some more lanyards today (yes, I have some paracord I'm trying to get rid of). Another was made after the pictures were taken.
USN 2000-2006

Culling of the knife and multi herds in progress...

If I pay five figures for something, it better have wings or a foundation!

Max - that’s a lovely cabinet and an even nicer collection you have there - just noticed a 146 solitaire!  Here’s my much smaller collection.

Altis - that’s not really helping!!!!

Been caught that way too!
Awesome collection Rizio!  :like:  Like those Viscontis.  I'd like to get a Homo Sapiens with the volcanic lava finish.

Thanks, Maxdog, it’s an interesting material that lave/resin - always feels warm and supposedly absorbs liquids, not that I’ve noticed! It was the Florentine Hills that got me re-started on pens - the second drawer is full of Parkers I’ve accumulated over the decades….

Day 22

Postie dropped by surprisingly early today, so used the Evo 23’s main blade on post opening duty - an interesting shape to the blade, slightly fuller than the Vic norm.

I'm really not doing this thread justice with quickly flicking through, there'll be some good browsing by the end when I soak it all up.
Anyway here's some pics. It was a bit daft walking through this in thongs and boardies but hey, I'm out of lockdown.

I agree. Getting up at four a.m. sucks,

I have no need to be up right now, but I've already started my day.   Sometimes I sleep in until 0500.  :D  It's nice, really.  My wife and the dogs are still snoozing, so no one interupts my online SAK time.

Good that you're out and about, but you had me concerned at "thongs" until I realized that you're talking about footwear.
