One of the things I like about the Bond is that you can get a modern day multitool (with nice nylon pouch), very similar to the original PST, brand new with full warranty…and without risking ordering older models online that may or may not have issues.

Also I wish I could have found 3 PST for the price of a Bond.  I can’t seem to find any online for less than $45-50, with most being even higher priced.  The nice ones mostly well over $100.

As for the PST II, I am tempted on that one because I would like scissors.  Haven’t bought one though, because I think my wife is catching on to all of my recent knife, tool purchases, and I don’t feel like explaining why the UPS driver is here again :-)

BUT, to each their own.  I certainly respect your point of view on the tool.  Just sharing my own in response.

......another strategy: tell your partner how useful such a nice pair of pliers is.....the small and the larger ones.... and get 1,2,3 for her/him....worked fine with me ;-)

Also a note on the prices of PSTs...

Before the release of the Heritage models a good condition PST could be had from $20-$30 depending in how patient you were but after the release of those the prices have doubled or more since then

Most now start out at $50 here in the US and the sky is apparently the limit on the high end of the prices of them :ahhh

Yeah to be honest, mine is pretty easy going too.  Actually she bought me my Bond as an early Father’s Day gift.

Us Ozzies will have to wait for the Bond. Leatherman Oz confirmed that they only expect them by the end of August. I asked for a price, but that question was not answered.  :dunno:

Bugger, online may be our only option for an earlier one, or form an inmate here.

What is the going price in the USA at the moment?

Cheers, Pete

Introducing my Victorinox Compact…quite possibly the perfect accent piece to the scissor-less Bond :-)

Getting to compare the Bond with the PST first hand this morning.  They are so similar.  Two great edc multitools and I think Leatherman did  a nice job of keeping the Bond so true to the original.

Yes, it would be hard to choose between the two, but I suppose the newer, updated Bond is probably the best choice for a modern day user multitool (because of the updated tools, while maintaining the old school appeal of the original).

I wonder why date codes on these but not the Rebar considering it's basically the same frame.    :dunno:

Not the same frame at all, Chief. Side view shows a double taper at the plyers end of the Rebar, but only one taper on PST and Bond frames. Not to mention its wider and has locks.

I'm glad they went new version of the old-school. Cant for the life of me figure why they didnt just call it the PST 1000 and come out with a scissor/ diamond file version next year (PST 2000) and produce them side by side, like Cherokee/ Grand Cherokee.

Cant find them in stores here yet

Seems Leatherman was finally aware of the fact that they could be getting a good percentage of that used market if they introduced a brand new but low cost PST. Enter the Bond. I predict the used PST prices get lower. Why buy a 25 year old one for 50 to 100 dollars if you can get a brand new, US made one with a warranty for a sure 50?

I wish you had mentioned that earlier…I just bought my second vintage PST for $50ish bucks. :-). 1st dates to 92-93, 2nd 96.  They just seem a little “finer” to me.  Not to mention, I like old stuff :-)

The warranty is actually lifetime but they say 25 years to differentiate from others with lifetime warranties

At least that is what Tim Leatherman use to tell :dunno:

I am sure as time goes on they may get more strict about the 25 years (or not :dunno: ) but how will they enforce that on some of their newer tools that have no dates
