This one is interesting, what is the model? Is there a photo showing the blade as well? Olfa is really a "no BS brand".

Inspected the Gerber, to determine how to exchange the blade!

The slide movement is not smooth. Sticky to deploy and nearly impossible to retract. Required pliers to coax the mechanism back.

I will not carry.

And, yes the blade slide is well lubricated.
Gerber would have been wise to line the slide with thin teflon strips or such.  The mech is a pain!
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Day 20
I used the sliding box cutter to open a package.  I vaguely remember these came from ULINE or some other industrial supply company in a box of 50 and even though the blade is replaceable they were considered disposable because they were so cheap.  Admittedly I haven't used this one in years but I'm glad I didn't throw it away.

@cody6268: I enjoy Propel every now and then!

@kaevin: somehow I think I'd prefer the notch to the slider.

@AzteCypher: is that granite? If so, hope you didn't have to install them!

@ReamerPunch: I ate a lot of pizza yesterday and the day before. What was on yours?

@LoopCutter: shame the Gerber was so recalcitrant!

@JonesE: I'm still thinking a Fastback would be a nice pick-up!

@BPRoberts: $4 is better than $0!

@Alan K: I wore out a lot of those sliding jobbies. They must have been really cheap, because I was never given just a new blade.

Day 20

Why the folks at Scott ABF Exchange felt the need to zip-tie my new watch to its plastic holder is a mystery to me. But at least it gave me some challenge fodder.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

The objective was simply to cut the offending object. Both blades did so without issue. The result: another tie.

Day 21

Olfa PL-1

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]
Made in Japan goodness

The package arrived before Christmas. Here it is the L-size autoload cutter. I originally wanted to get a L-2000RP but the price is very high. And given I have not acquired as many Ofla  as NT cutters, I decided to get this one (and another Olfa) for Christmas.

The body is made from fiberglass reinforced plastic. It gives a satin and warm touch. The yellow is a more muted one instead of the usual Olfa yellow.

One feature that is commonly seen on higher grade L size cutter is this dial screw for locking the blade in front. Olfa calls it W (double) lock. It is the best place for stablizing the blade, giving less length to flex.  And it stresses near to the tip, making the stresser part being discorded rather than stressing the back.

Speaking about the tip, with its bent part, is very well made. Giving no play at all even without the lock screw.

It features the same autoload chamber mechanism with LTD-04, but an enlarged one. IMO the mechanism looks more in line with the L sized cutters and isn't enlarged due to having the extra things in the gut.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]
Chamber opened

To open the compartment, push the red lock from the back and slide the black end part to the end and the compartment will be pushed open by the backing spring.

From the back of the compartment, I can see the rail is being slided into the plastic handle, and fixed with a screw afterwards.

This one seems to have been in the storehouse for a loooooong time. The blades oil between the blades is dried up and sticked together. Making it impossible to slide out the first blade and I thought it was defective. A light pry between the blades with a Tajima fixed that.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]
The blades a all sticked together

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]
Blade out, the cutter is very nice to hold.

This PL-1 is a nicely made auto load L size cutter with a screw lock. It is much cheaper than the NT counterpart. I am going to put all the HFL blades inside it and throw away the extra HFL. But I am keeping one of them incase someone want to lend a cutter.

I've helped install it before but I've never done it myself.  It's heavy and scary.  Scary in that I don't want to break it while installing it.  :dwts:  I'd rather pay someone else to do it.

Day 20

The  package says these battery blister packs are baby proof.  I think they're idiot proof because it took me longer than necessary to get the battery out.  The EAB had to come in and save me from further embarassment.

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

(Image removed from quote.)

I always feel they are extremely hard to open even with a pair of scissors. If I use cutters I am afraid of scratching the cell inside. I'm just too careful.

@kaevin: somehow I think I'd prefer the notch to the slider.

That's why they are selling both.  :drink:

Day 21

This was one part of a two pack of Milwaukee Fastbacks we bought earlier this year. We call it a "his and hers" set. This one is the "hers" and mostly sits on my wife's desk.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

I used it to make an ice melt scoop out (I warmed up the cider to drink after I cleared the snow).

Day 19
No use today.  The pocket clip was not easy to bend because of the odd shape.  It is shaped like a hockey stick to accommodate the string cutting notch and this odd shape made it want to twist rather than bend under the force of the pliers.  If I had to do it again, I think it might be better to remove the pocket clip first, then use the counter force of two pliers against each other.  I could bend it however and wherever I wanted it bent, then reattach the adjusted pocket clip to the knife.

I think I have a silver version I bought at Dollar General a few years ago. Seem to recall the same problems with the pocket clip.

Day 20:

For dinner tonight, I threw a Sam's Club BBQ sandwich in the microwave.

As long as you follow the directions to the tee, they're edible.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

However, I prefer to add cheese, an acceptable amount of BBQ sauce, and pickles.

I had to open up new packs of each.
