March 30 Day Hiker Challenge
Day 8 of 30

I have a BBQ cookoff next weekend and am starting to get everything ready. My old food warming box I built several years ago was looking pretty rough, so I touched up the stain a little bit.

@marlowe221: yes, those sort of things happen. Hope you were able to fix it from the comfort of home.

@MTSAK: one of these days I might have my own "try stick." I'll need to figure out how to do a consistent quality  sharpening job first.

@Barry Rowland: I'm guessing those are for a pellet stove?

@GA1dad: cool little box. You did a great job on it!

Another great day, y'awl!

Day 9

I had an action shot, but of course the camera skeezed out on it. So here's a photo of the aftermath.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

The Hiker's cap lifter did a better job on the twist-off cap than the Gerber Curve did. I must admit that I chose that particular bottle because the photo of the rotunded cat amused me. And I was surprised to see that it was actually pineapple cream. It tastes a lot like a piña colada...very tasty! Jones' is rather spendy, though.

That's awesome, GA1dad. :o Would love to hear more about that cookoff. And see some photos, if you have the time in the heat of it all? :dunno: :D

Will do. For now, here's a couple of pictures from past events. Just kind of a variety showing the full cooker, trucking it all in, some times my wife does a dessert entry and our basic set up at an event.

Day 9

The small blade remove the tags on a new baseball glove.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

My son is playing and I am one of the coaches. I haven’t been able to find my old glove so I finally gave in and bought a new one.

I expect to find the old one at any moment now…

Cool setup, GA1Dad

Day 9

Look ma, no pin hole. Early 2000s, so a couple years too early for the pin hole on standard scales.

Was trying to get both the hiker and the cockatoos in shot (the white blobs on the fence  ) but didn’t manage well with either :twak:

@Fireman: neat planter! It kinda matches Yellow, too.

@GA1dad: :drool: Hope you win!

@marlowe221: doubtless the old glove will turn up sometime this week.

@BPRoberts: does it have the VSSR/crossbow tang stamp?

@Echotech: do you have pink cockatoos in your area? Last I heard, they're seen as pests in Australia, which I find hard to believe.

Another great day, y'awl!

Day 9 Bonus

Day 9:
Had two projects going at once. Had to use the Philips to open the battery compartment of my little boy's toy train and used the can opener to open a split ring to put a name tag on our new puppy's collar.

I do FX, they're usually called galahs or pink & grey cockatoos but not nearly as many as the sulphur crested cockatoos as in my pic.
I think farmers may consider them pests as they probably eat newly sown seeds, but I've never heard of them being culled or anything

We get huge flocks of them, particularly the sulphur crested ones, literally 50 - 100 at a time

Thought I’d better find a better picture….from my balcony.

@Barry Rowland: :hatsoff: and hope to see some sheepdog photos!

@MTSAK: hope to see some puppy photos! You picked a great name for her.

@Echotech: beautiful bird! We have no wild cockatoos hereabouts, though I did see a cardinal in my backyard not long after moving here.

@Fireman: is that one of the FireAnt jobs that replaces the toothpick?

Day 10

What could be inside?

The shipping label was removed before photos were taken. As one of my fellow challengers loathes tape residue, I made sure it was removed before taking the below photo. :D

Nope, Legos. The minifigure at left is my attempt at creating what Lego fans call a Sigfig (SIGnature FIGure). He may acquire a less surly expression later on.

There may well be more Lego showing up in the future.

Tang stamp as requested. I believe that's a big Big V and non-touching crossbow. Big V puts it up to 2008, but I don't see the back stamp on the guide I have (and the wiki is down).

The small blade helped open some mail at the office today. I didn’t take a picture because I wasn't sure I wanted to explain what a “Swiss Army knife challenge” is…

No one is anti-pocket knife at my office, and they are certainly used to me having a SAK and using it. But I thought I would spare them our particular brand of crazy…  :ahhh
