Buck 501 used for mail call and helped release new shoe cleats from the packaging.

Now that I have them, maybe will no longer have need the remainder of the season😜

It has been reported more than once the BUCK does not repair slip joints.
If a model is still available they will exchange for new.

If the model is no longer in production and there is no inventory, then they provide you a CREDIT that be applied to any new purchase.  I am guessing 40 to 50%.  Never heard of a $ limit.

Hmm well I suppose I'll have to give it a try, it's a shame it's the main spring that's broken. If it was the other I'd just knock it out and make it a single blade.

Day Eighteen of Buck

Opened up a bag of vermiculite to mix in with my potting soil mix with the Buck 112. My Bur x English oak hybrids are taking root after a good stratification in the fridge.

Other than sharpening, oiling, and slicing paper to tiny shreds, the only thing I had to cut today was the plastic on a case of heavenly goodness

I think it is only beaten in practicality (in Buck’s line) by the TRX or Sport models that are user serviceable. I don’t have one of those so I can’t speak to it directly.

A beautiful knife Sherry!    That should pocket carry very well…

Today my Brown Micarta slim Select Plus will have pocket duty.  This relieved the Red Slim Select which has been moved to waist pack readiness.

Comparing a view different ebony knives today, seen here with a GEC 39, and an A Wright & Son Spearpoint. Ebony isn't necessarily my favorite handle material, but I do enjoy the natural hues that Buck tends to have.

Day 18

(Image removed from quote.)

Buck 301 today while roaming the local flea market.

Bought these two knives for a couple bucks each. The one is an old queen the other a Buck 703. Unfortunately the Buck has a broken spring, so it'll just go in the pile of other broken bucks until I whenever I remember to send them off to Buck.

(Image removed from quote.)

The 703 isn't made anymore, so I'm not sure what Buck will do when I send it in.  :dunno: maybe they have a stash of springs hiding somewhere.

Seems that the first batch had some known issues with heat treating on the backsprings--thus, they're known to break. I've got one I've had since I was a kid (bought by my Granddad new), but I think it's in the roll with the rest of my Stockmans.

PS: Buck offered me 50% off any knife in the catalog if I sent in my Bucktool, so I presume the story would be similar. You'd think they'd replace it with a 303, since it's the closest current model.

Day 18 (fell asleep before I got things posted yesterday)

I admit, I went outside with only a Victorinox Companion I keep in my sweatpants. Had to carve a new feed box lid, so I grabbed the Stanley SL-12 I keep in my truck--so I cheated. Whoops. Fixed it once I got home with the Spitfire and SwissBuck.

The SL-12 was one of many models Camillus produced for United Cutlery in the late '90s and early '00s. If I recall correctly, they made knives branded both Stanley and Harley Davidson. Unlike the standard offerings, many have serrated blades. The SL-12's spey/skinner is entirely serrated--and the whole reason I bought one. You can still get them new on card for about $50. I paid $15 for this one mint, with no box several years ago. I had to go with like-new, as the serrated blades were often ruined from poor sharpening.

I know Camillus made the same pattern for Buck, but I don't recall the pattern number.
