I'm always amazed to see what a great collection you have.

Thank you.  I started buying Swiss Army knives back in the 1970s for my self and as gifts. Along about 2000 I figured since I already had a bunch, it might be nice to complete the collection. Shouldn't be that difficult I thought. A decade or so later I'm hooked on the little marvels, with no end in sight.  :D

Why do I collect Swiss Army knives:
- They are an outstanding example of industrial design.
- They are well made.
- They are reasonably priced (normally).
- There is a tremendous variety of them.

Also:
- They are not fragile.
- They don't take up a lot of space.
- What ever their value as a collectible, they will always have utility value as a knife.

The big one: I think they're neat!

I'd like to add that a Vic will retain value in many cases even if it has been used.  They use the best materials on earth to produce these gems and whether you use or collect, it really shows.  Cheers Victorinox

Karl, "little marvels" is a great way of thinking about them!  I've been on an alliteration kick lately, so I'll revise it and propose "miniature marvels".  :D

Okay, on to the topic...  I'm planning on getting another Wenger as my next SAK.  I just can't decide between the S557 and the S52.  I'm leaning toward the S557 as it'll be better for me for regular "urban" EDC.  The S52 on the other hand, seems like it'd be a great pocket SAK for hiking, camping, outdoors kinds of stuff.

S 557 has my vote. Imagine the prices on those if Vic kills them off completely. If you can afford to, get one. If it becomes obsolete then you'll have a collectors item by the time you are looking like a prune. You'll have the KF4 of the Wengers.  :D

And my latest latest is a 1940s (?) 91mm Waiter with exposed rivets, no scale tools.
It has the old style opener. But since it's in a different location that usual it's a mirrored one, with the nail nick on the other side. Very cool.

I had no idea that was the nickname for the plane. No, I bought a Buff as in the headwear scarf thing. I'd have to admit that when Peter asked me that the first thing I thought of was................
