Getting to the point.

Wenger Director with phillips and Manager with corkscrew. Also a small 4-blade model I don't have a name for.
Is that a telescoping pointer I see in those?   :o

That would be worth giving up my laser pointer for when giving lectures!!!  Uber-retro-cool!!!

Yes it is, and the weight of the knife makes it very well balanced. Unfortunately long out of production.

An odd Skier
Reply #246 on: November 06, 2012, 09:13:51 AM
Any idea about this odd SAK?
Seems like an interesting Skier variant.
I can't understand the reason to have two can/bottle openeres on the same knife ???
I wasn't able to find any information.

Looks like a special run for L.L. Bean. Swapped a combo tool for the nail file on the Mountain / Ski (#1.34.03). Like you said, doesn't make a lot of sense, but it gives them a unique model they can put their name on. Bean's done that several times.

Nice find. :tu:

Wenger Passports

(Image removed from quote.)

I visited a shop during the weekend, and I found this old set by Wenger.
The Esquire is the same as the one shown above  by ICanFixThat, plus a Traveler is also included.
Given the name "Elle&Lui - Lui&Elle", it makes more sense to sell the knives in pairs.
Don't know why the Esquire was sold alone (I saw it for sale many times on ebay, but always without the Traveler).

Knew Victorinox had done a pair of Elle & Lui knives, but hadn't seen the Wenger Traveler version before. Interesting.

I swapped my Vic Soldier for a Wenger SI which I received today - and I'm much more impressed with the SI; The bail is a great improvement for me and the extra belly of the blade is good too.

It is noticable - almost definately doesn't make any difference whatsoever but I'm glad it's there.

It's there, but you need a machinists eye to spot it.

The blade on my Farmer measures 14mm at the widest point, the blade on my SI is 14.3mm. (both with unused factory edge)

Side by side you can see there is more curve on the Wenger blade.

Repost from Latest SAKs thread:

Just in; the blue American version (to go with the red European version) of the Wenger SGT Shortex-Plus capillary tube cutter for gas chromatographic chemical analysis. The gold-plated wheels contain a spring-loaded diamond glass cutter, with the magnifying glass to examine the cut. Also other tools for working on lab equipment.

The blue one was at one time imported by Hewlitt-Packard. They are now imported by Agilent Technologies. If you really want one you can get it here - only $395.   :D

And from the UK.

This is a old Wenger knife that i have bought it two months ago from ebay.
I really like this sak, it's the kind of old sak's that you want to carry with you all the time. :D
Does anyone know in what era was made.  ???
From the tools i guess 1940-1950, but i am not sure.
Thanks in advance.

Wenger appearently changed from brown fiber to red plastic handles on their standard models some time in the mid 1930s. Also changed the screwdriver/bottle opener about that time. There are several different types of shield on the fiber handles. Models without shield also show up from time to time, but whether they predate the shields or were simply a variation (lower cost?) is unknown (at least to me).

In any event a very nice find.  :tu:

Another Wenger/SGT tool I have never seen:

But I don't have much hope.
As long as they are considered lab tools, I don't think we will see them sold for a "normal" price, i.e. a SAK price.

Don't compare it to a Farmer blade - they are practically the same; compare it to a Vic Soldier blade - the difference is clear. I'm not saying there's any difference in the abilities of either brands, but the Wenger definately has a deeper and curvier shape to it.

I recently saw a post on here where another member became so frustrated at not being able to source what he was looking for and so contacted Wenger direct with positive results. I've tried to find the post again as I now wish to contact them myself out of frustration.

Does anyone have the contact details for Wenger direct i.e their customer services email address? I've had a quick look online for the details but the Wenger site just directs me to the UK distributor, which for the other member got no results.

Time to grab the bull by it's horns!!

Can anybody help??

I don't claim to know it all, but what I do know is right.

If it's the Whitby company you mean (from the UK Wenger site, I can highly recommend them. I emailed them about a repair on a Minigrip, they sent me a form out to send back with the minigrip and within 6 weeks I had a repaired minigrip with new scales.

Give them a try.

Carlo, in addition to my two copies, I've seen two or three other Shortix-Plus for sale on ebay. So there is hope for that one. However I've never seen the Fix-it knife or (the one I really want) the version of the MiniGrip.

So many neat things I can't get my hot little hands on! :gimme:

I'm not a big fan of the Evo scales, but when I saw this I decided to buy as it has an unusual configuration.
I think that the only other "big" Wenger with the watch case opener tool is the Minathor.
I searched the web but haven't found any information about tis knife. Seems like a special run made for Longines.
