If there's one thing little guy learnt early in his speech is 'change battery', and I never quite understand why all the young kids are so drawn to a charismatic talking pig nowadays.

Please, no politics!

I read the title and already feeling light headed, must be some serious toy for the grown ups! :ahhh

I have a pretty interesting story about similar kind of toys, but long story short, it may or may not be the best idea to swipe the bottom of the passenger's shoes, since all the 'baddies' probably go to the same walmart and drive the same rental car as well. :D

I usually do have some in the stove, but also like to have a small 2oz bottle just in case.
It was just for some morning coffee.

In the evening I did some popcorn, but went ahead a made a fire in the twig stove for that.
"Be prepared!"

C'mon Poncho.  Who're you kidding? You know the NXT is becoming your new favorite. In another couple of weeks you'll be buying a second one as a back up in case you damage or lose this one.

This is kind of what I feel about the Minimaster.  The tools work for the most part, but there are definitely better things out there that I would rather carry.

I will also say that I will not be sad when this challenge is over, because carrying a nicer tool.

Day 25
It's time for The Castaway portion of the challenge whereby I determine if the tool I'm using could prevent me from starving or dying of thirst by opening a coconut if I found myself stranded on an island like Tom Hanks in the movie Castaway.

First I used the knife to top the coconut and cut the shell into sections so I could pull them off.  The knife blade on the MP600 was a little awkward to use.  I found myself pushing the lock release with my thumb every time I'd bear down hard on the knife, but the design of the MP600 means that there was no way for the knife to close on my hand because if it closed it would have hit the other handle and not my hand.  The partial serrations did work very well cutting through the coconut fibers.

Second, lacking an awl, I used the small flat driver to bore holes into a couple of the coconut's eyes.  The coconut water did not want to pour freely from the small holes but I was able to suck it out.  Coconut water is loaded with electrolytes and it was very refreshing.

Third step was to crack the coconut in half to get to the meat inside the shell.  I used the closed MP600 to tap the coconut around its perimeter until it cracked.  Success!  You won't starve or die of thirst with the MP600 to open your coconuts.

So, I was connecting to a new attic exhaust fan to the preexisting wiring this afternoon and decided to use the TripSaver to mount the thermostat.

Of course, it was around 135 °F/57 °C/smurfin' hot in the attic. But, for my peeps, I decided to forgo my cordless drill and instead used a combination of the TripSaver and my Leatherman ratchet.

First, I used the awl to mark the mounting holes and then make starter holes:

Then, I mounted the thermostat:

I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to fully drive the screws into the wood given that the ratchet fit somewhat loosely in the handle of the TripSaver, old pine boards can be tough to screw into, and the second hole was in a knot. The body of the MT allows for torque to be generated, and the ratchet alleviated the awkwardness of the handle being offset from the centerline of the MT. Overall, it worked well.

Day 25:

Opened a new utility knife for my electronics toolkit (I always keep 1X electricians knife and 1X utility knife in my larger kits)

The Stanley 99E is a disappointment, when compared to my vintage 10-099s. I don't know if the "E" stands for "Economy" or not, but it seems very poorly made compared to any of the several around here (some older than the 1970s, others not 10 years old). The leaf spring that locks the blade in place is what worries me. It is much softer than that on any of my others. I have an (imported, sadly) WorkPro in my main toolbox that cost $2 less, but is a thousand times better. I prefer folding for quick blade changes and a safer lock, but I like the 99's ergonomics.  The plastic lock in my hand-me-down 10-049 recently broke due to age (it's an original chrome-plated model); but I"m replacing it with a Christy. I usually sharpened the blade instead of replacing it, and the Christy has no plastic whatsoever and is both smaller and slimmer. It will also likely replace this Stanley, as I can lock the blade in several positions on the Christy as well.

Cut tape:

The shower door in the master bathroom won't stay closed. It is a combination of a warped frame and the magnetic strip going bad. I usually use a short piece of clear Gorilla Tape along the top when I'm in there to keep the door shut and water out of the floor, while still being easy to open.  I need to get around to measuring that strip and buying and installing a new one.  The problem is that you have to take it apart to do so, that's why ti's not been done.

Instagram :D I, along with several others here, have an Instagram account and I usually post pics there, use the filters and then upload them to Imgur to post here  I just started the MT account of mine a few months back and have been trying to lure some of them over to here  :D and for those curious my IG MT account is edcgeer

I did the same with a Suspension.

And this is how I felt about the Suspension after I first bought a Multiforce, and knew for certain after I bought a ST 300.

I started with a PST :ahhh after getting a Blast and an OG Supertool I was ruined for cheap and cheerful :D

This is kind of what I feel about the Minimaster.  The tools work for the most part, but there are definitely better things out there that I would rather carry.

I will also say that I will not be sad when this challenge is over, because carrying a nicer tool.

I have enjoyed the challenge and the camaraderie but I will for sure be glad to carry a nicer tool :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh

It's time for The Castaway portion of the challenge whereby I determine if the tool I'm using could prevent me from starving or dying of thirst by opening a coconut if I found myself stranded on an island like Tom Hanks in the movie Castaway.

Great job!

I really don't get why Gerber abandoned awls on the MP600 entirely, given most of their competitors have awls on most of the catalog. You'll see awls on a small handful of odd (and hard to find) late '90s and early 2000s Multilocks, but never MP600s. The MP600 M4 Sight Tool carbon scraper is not an awl. Albeit, I have personally used the carbon scraper as one (as my main reason in getting an MP600 ST was the proper length Phillips). I had, at one point, almost bought a beat up Scout to harvest the awl from, but the seller wanted $25, which I felt was too much for a tool in poor condition with a damaged blade and file.
