finished it off the other day, a few minor tweaks - swapped the snickers for a double decker and added a bag of graze smokehouse nuts and veggies, removing the fruity fiesta pocket, increasing the calorie count to about 3000.

OK....some concerning unconfirmed reports to relate.

Fuzzy may not be able to complete this challenge.

Rumor has it that Fuzzy went slightly mad madder waiting for Jonuts and just binged on Jaffa cakes. He was taken to a modern hospital on the Isle of Arran for treatment of Insulin coma and other unnamed conditions. Local press is monitoring the situation. McVitie's was unavailable for comment. PSA's are expected shortly and the government has called for an inquiry.

(Image removed from quote.)

He seems doing alright  :dunno:

Why has that 'nurse' got her mitts on Fuzzy's nether regions? Seems quite unorthodox treatment for a jaffa cake overdose

Maybe he actually got hands on an actual Jonut

I'll take me coat...

Nothing to see here...
Ok so I've managed to cobble something together...

The following items were re-packed from a larger package...

-- Breakfast --

Kellogs Granola (only needs some water) + Weetabix drink (429kcal)...

-- Lunch --

Chickpea Curry + fancy fizzy drink (469kcal)...

-- Dinner --

Herring Fillets in tomato sauce + 3 slices Rye bread + fancy fizzy drink (958kcal)...

-- Snacks --

Cashew Cranberry mix, 100g (469kcal) + Veggy Jerky (208kcal) + Protein Bar (167kcal)...

Summs up to a round 2700kcal packed into my old lunch bag...

The sodas don't fit in the bag?

Looks quite alright, McStitchy. Perhaps on the heavy side.....but tasty and nutritious!  :tu:

Apart from those soon-to-be-lost-to-the-children sodas which are wandering around loose, quite alright indeed.   :tu:

Many MRE's feature some sort of bread, bread substitute, or bread-like product. I love rye bread. Rye bread keeps really well. Do you think your rye bread will hold up for a week or so....in the dark.....having been opened and fondled....while sitting next to some feral soda pops?

Thank you Sir  :salute:

I'll have to keep the sodas safe  :D

Yes, I'm sure about the Rye bread. I have good experience with it.
It is quite stable and will be fine for weeks that way. The bag is air tight too.

Apart from the sodas (they're only 73 kcal each) and the Weetabix drink the heavy parts are the Chickpea Curry and the Herring Fillets and thats due to the fluid in it.
However, I might need less or no water to prepare it then I guess.

I can weight the bag and see...

True....you can offset some carried water with those scrumptious sodas.   ;)

I'm eager to see that bread in action.   :tu:

I briefly looked for one last item for my GSMRE yesterday, but couldn't find what I wanted.

So I think my GSMRE is also complete, as pictured in my previous post. It has been sitting in storage in the basement for the past few days, reconciled to its culinary fate.

Today I added one last item for my MRE, thanks to Chick-Fil-A.

I like to mix Mayonnaise with my tuna fish, but have ate it plain and was planning on doing that for this challenge doing without.  But today out of curiosity while getting a couple sandwiches, I asked if they had mayonnaise packets.  Success!  Now I won’t be eating dry tuna.

So here is my GSMRE
Breakfast

Lunch

Dinner

Snacks, Drinks, and condiments

All in my ZippSack, about 3800 calories

I went a little overboard, between lunch and snacks especially, but I’d rather have variety, then craving something I could have included but didn’t.  Several things, especially in condiments, were repackaged from larger containers.

  Loved the little bottle of bourbon. ( Don't I just wish we'd been given an MRE like that! )

Excellent looking meal kit for the day. Nice score on the mayo! ( I thought about mayo myself--my local Gas Station has some packets offered next to the hot dog station. )

Looks like you'll be eating well on Chow Day!  :tu:

I tried to obtain all food items from gas stations. The only items not from gas stations are the drink mix (Walmart) and the packet of mayonnaise (courtesy of Biscuitville). Please note the inclusion of the Texas Pete. Given that I am from North Carolina and that Texas Pete is a North Carolina product, there is little doubt of my position on the Texas Pete vs Tabasco debate  ;)
Also please note that none of these items require heating. I will be working on June 5th, and thus I will not have the opportunity to cook.

I was going to put in two bottles, as a nod to some overseas Army base rules of 2 drink limit per night.

The funny thing is that although not everything was acquired from a gas station, the majority of the foods (just different brands), including bourbon, could have been bought at a nearby Navy Exchange gas station minimart.  The Marine Corp minimart, that is next city over, is even better stocked.

Just goes to show not all gas stations are created equal.

GSG, that is outstanding!

You put that together in record time, and utilizing a Gas Station as your primary source is worthy of extra-credit.  Feels as though you are something of an expert here*. Sea Monster may have met his match.   :dunno:

I think I picked up about half my items from two gas stations. The rest from a local super market and an outdoors shop (for my freeze-dried meal).

Well done, sir!   :salute:

New selection. I know there was talk of revealing the meal on the day, but I'll be driving, so you get it now.

Similar to last time, but I forwent the chocolate bars in favour of some dark choc coated nuts, and went for some "fresh" meat in the form of sweet chilli tuna in a...bag thing, I've ditched the chips as they took up too much real estate, and I've included a premade beverage.

I fit it in my foodbag...and it was still half empty (according to my measurements there was about 3L spare space) so the meals (with all their packaging...) takes up about 0.7 US Gal

Total 11310 KJ, or 2703 Cal

P - 100
F- 105
C - 332

It's terrible for the environment packaging wise (in all the steps that are involved in packaging...) but small portions are a pro move (also probably more likely to be found at a servo, not a lot of family-value-packs on the shelf there). You're less tempted to graze or eat it all at once that way.

The obvious exception I've made is the Ginger nut biscuits, but it's a risk I'm willing to take - ginger is a nausea suppressant, so whether you are flying, sailing, driving, or having to push the bloated corpses of the infinite dead out of the way in a post apocalyptic future, they're going to be handy. (I'm guessing there is sod all real ginger in the biscuits - actual ginger would obviously be better, but not too many servos are stocking those luxury products**)

**They probably *would* have travel sickness chews or sweets or something, but it didn't occur to me to look in that aisle at the time.

I saw something interesting, that for camping or something where I can be arsed heating I might consider in the future, but wasn't appropriate to this "mission" -
heat and eat jackfruit - https://www.plantlifefoodco.com.au/mexican-style-jackfruit

Oh, in case you're wondering, the whole lot cost about $9AUD, which is about $7USD, or $8.50 CAN or $9.50 NZD or  £5

Edit: I will probably throw in pack of suimin noodles and some tinned meat. I'll want a hot meal at the end of the day, and I can prep that easily with boiled water (I've always got the jetboil in the cab, but if I'm honest, everywhere has a kettle and I'll just use that  ::) )

That'll add another 250ish cal to the daily total.

We'll see how I go finding a tin of meat...I might have to stir in diced up jerky, to maintain the authentic servo snackfood vibe.

Something I was really hoping to have but couldn't find was sesame snaps - http://www.goldendays.com.au/sesame-snaps.html

They're a great travel food, but alas I couldn't get them from the minimart.

to be fair, sitting in a cab doesn't burn a lot of energy :P - the food is mostly to have something to do so you don't fall asleep!

Time to get those GSMREs finished up!

You don't have 300 years to finish up your purchases and storage plans: Storage Day is 30 May ( local ).

This means that some of you have only a few hours left to complete those last minute purchases. If Jonuts are not available.... :sa:....find a substitute!

Get 'em packed up and stored away!
