Aptly named, the SuperTool from Leatherman was a bigger, heavier, tougher version of the PST, ready for someone who needed a little something extra!

The SuperTool was so successful that it spawned a series named after it, each one just as tough, and each one incorporating its own style- the SuperTool 200 had a rolling lock system and the SuperTool 300 features handle cutouts for better access of the internal tools.

Learn all about the SuperTool at the Multitool Encyclopedia- only at Multitool.org!  https://wiki.multitool.org/tiki-index.php?page=Super+Tool

I was many Leathermans in by the time I got this one.  In fact this one even has the original factory stickers on it and has absolutely never been used- it deserved much better photos than this!   :ahhh

One of my old employers had one with his name engraved on it- it was a wedding present from his wife.  He loved it.  Eventually he got rid of the wife but kept the SuperTool!

When you talk about design evolution in multitools, it's hard not to include the MP650 from Gerber, largely because this model is actually called the Evolution.

With the regular in body tools and different heads to accommodate a variety of situations, the MP650 Evolution is arguably one of the most versatile multitools available!

Learn everything you ever wanted to know about the MP650 Evolution (and every other Gerber) on our forum!  https://forum.multitool.org/index.php?board=21.0

And I forgot to include yesterday's...

Something a bit different today- why I hate danglers, lanyards and other doodads that attach to your pocket knife or multitool!

If they don't come off easily they can really get in the way- such as this nice stainless steel dangler I have on my trusty Victorinox Compact.  Yes, it helps keep me from losing the knife, but if it keeps me from being able to use it, why bother?

Like lanyards and danglers? Let us know at forum.multitool.org!

This. I usually just hold it against the scale while using the bottle opener as a screwdriver. With some practice you won't have any problem with it.

Based on the Ashworth Turtle, the Gekkota tool from CRKT is an extremely cool little tool!  From its one handed opening, liner locking, sub 2" blade to its screwdriver/bottle opener, the Gekkota is, well, extremely cool!

And then there's the color!  What's not to love?

You know this one was designed by Tom Stokes because of they stylized CRKT logo that, if you turn it a certain way, looks like an alien!  (See the third pic!)

Another forum shout out today, and something a bit different!

Does this fishing tool from South Bend qualify as a multitool?  Well, it has multiple functions, so I'm guessing so!

Of course, it seems to be missing a bottle opener, the one function most manufacturers insist is absolutely necessary to be deemed a multitool, but that makes sense as generally cans are better for fishing!

The word PowerPlay is sure to get a Canadian's heart rate racing, but unfortunately that name wasn't enough to keep this tool from SOG from being discontinued.

This particular PowerPlay belongs to my father, a man who appreciates SOGs because after eight decades (and counting!) of hard work, his hands hurt and SOG's Compound Leverage helps grip things he can't with normal pliers.

On behalf of my father, the greatest man I know, I tip my hat to SOG.  This may not have been a popular model, but it gets used every day here, in the backwoods of Ontario!

I'm glad to hear that it is working for you!

This wasn't a great tool, but it wasn't a bad tool in the least.  I'd rather carry this than a Wingman, Sidekick or Rev.

Honestly, I don't think it deserved as quick a demise as it got.

Besides... it looks happy in the third pic!   :D

Serious Leatherman collectors should look away now!  The Vista model is highly prized by collectors, but even so, my father prefers to actually use his!

As you can tell, it is one of his more heavily relied on tools, and that makes it more valuable than any fancy tool that lives in a box or a drawer!

Learn more about the discontinued Vista on the Multitool Encyclopedia- only at Multitool.org!  https://wiki.multitool.org/tiki-index.php?page=Vista

This tool was produced by DDR, the knife company from noted knife designer Darrel Ralph.  Ordinarily I talk about the tool, but today I'd like to talk about Darrel.

Through my years in this industry I have met many people- many of whom are superstars, and Darrel was one of them.  I still believe his Osprey is one of the most beautiful and elegant designs ever produced.

Last week Darrel had a stroke, and while I haven't had any news since, I would like to offer Darrel and his loved ones all of our best wishes at this time.

I've been posting my father's tools a lot, but what about my Mom?  Well, here's one of her go-to knives, a Kershaw Chive, designed by Ken Onion prior to his time with CRKT.

The Chive is an assisted opening knife, using a torsion bar to snap the blade open, and perhaps one of my favorite assisted opening blades- which is likely why I made sure to get her one!

And, did you know we had a subforum dedicated to Edged Tools like the Chive?  https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/board,29.0.html

Years ago I worked in the Watch and Jewellry Repair section of a major retailer here in Canada, and I always used the small blade on my Camper to pop open watch cases.

Some time later I learned about this model, the Watch Case Opener.  It's a simplistic 84mm model, available in traditional cellidor (pictured here) and smooth ALOX.  It features a regular blade and a special blade specifically designed for popping open watch case back plates.

Everything you could want to know about this and more is all at SAKWiki.com!  https://sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Watch+Case+Opener+Victorinox

When it comes to US made tools, few have been around as long as this one- the Chapman ratchet.

Like the Victorinox Ratchet that we featured previously, the Chapman is set up to accept standard 1/4" screwdriver bits, and you simply flip it over to change from driving in pulling out- and unlike the Victorinox model, the Chapman is marked to let you know which direction you are turning it!

Chapman began manufacturing tools in a garage in 1936, and has been a staple of many toolboxes ever since.

Another forum shoutout today!

Speaking of USA made tools, we really shouldn't forget the Bionic Wrench from Loggerhead.

This fantastic tool conforms to virtually any size nut capable of fitting inside it- as you squeeze the handles the teeth move inwards to grip whatever is inside them, and, with pressure on all six sides, the odds of slipping or stripping are very remote.

Did you know our forum has a whole section on hand tools like the Bionic Wrench?  https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/board,62.0.html

A shout out to the Swiss Army Knights today, although they will never know because they never venture outside of their subforum!   :D  :SAKnight:

Closely related to the Mike Horn model I posted a while back, this model was developed by Wenger with the Alinghi racing team, and as such, bears their name.

This particular model is the Alinghi 176, which features a Phillips screwdriver, which differentiates it from two other Alinghi models, the 177 and 181- but you don't need me to tell you that, as all of this info (and a lot more!) is available at SAKWiki.com, thanks to the tireless efforts of the Swiss Army Knights!
