 Day 1

Despite having the luxury option of a SAK and a fixed, I carried my Deluxe Tinker alone due to sick home day.

I neglected this very knife besides it is a great urban edc carry.

Tools today used: blade, awl, hook, bottle opener, scissors.
Tools missed/ cheated: none.

Looking forward to the next days.

Great choices, and happy new year!

Day 0
:ahhh
I had these, plus a Gerber Dime (which I would save for a Daredevil Challenge), to choose from:

I chose one that doesn't have its own challenge (insofar as I'm aware). It might be a bold choice...

The road less travelled, something new for a new year!

I’m going to have to sit this one out, as (1) I’m traveling and don’t have access to most of my tools, and (2) I’m nursing injuries to both thumbs that makes using a nail nick difficult.

I’ll be cheering y’all on, though!
I'm sorry but I'm going to have to back out too.  I'm going to be on the road for the next couple of weeks and it's going to be the Swisschamp and Executive with me.  I'll catch up with you all soon.

Sorry to see you go, but Happy New Year to you both.  Nate, hope it is nothing serious and do get well soon!  Barry, safe travel!

Day 1

I start the new year with a fixie and a folder, so first use of the year is to start a new deck to deal for Nix.  Really like this re-released CS Verdict, since it is not an expensive knife(as compared to all the high end knife out there), the grind must have been done on a pretty coarse wheel and I took sometime to completely give it a new bevel by sharpening away all the scratches.

Day 01

I've chosen my '81 Soldier to be my SAK (and only tool). I should be alright with that being one of the survivors of the Soldier On challenge  :D

Here its being towed out of my tool box by Matt Jr.

Those on the sick list I hope you get well soon and those who are traveling I hope you enjoy your trip.

It looks like I will be carrying a SAK and a trad this first week so after some deliberation I finally decided on the Kershaw Jack for the trad and the Champion for the SAK.

Sweet pic!

Good luck to everyone traveling, recovering, etc.

Day 1

Used the spey blade to open some chocolates. I feel like I don't use the spey very often, so I've decided to default to it this week and put it through its paces.

Spey blades are good slicers, especially when you don't want to damage things around what is being sliced.

I appreciate all the well-wishes, and am optimistic that my thumbnails will be back in action soon.

I also love the length on this at 3.75 inches. That extra tenth of an inch compared to Case and other company's medium stockman's may not seem like much, but I think it feels a lot better in hand, while still being more pocketable than the big 4+ inchers that most companies market as a "large".

With regard to Case, the Small Stockman (33 pattern) and Large Stockman (75 pattern) are pretty straightforward, being 2 5/8” and 4 1/4” closed respectively.  Things get a little weird with the medium Stockman, though, as there are at least five different patterns of varying lengths that fall under that heading:

44 pattern - 3 1/4” closed

087 pattern - 3 3/8” closed

032 pattern - 3 5/8” closed, square bolsters

18 pattern - 3 5/8” closed, rounded bolsters

47 pattern - 3 7/8” closed (the gem of the Case Stockman lineup IMO)

The venerable Buck 401 matches the Case 47 pattern at 3 7/8” closed.

The various medium Stockman patterns can awlso be found with several blade configurations. Though they're not currently in production insofar as I know, Case cattle knives are out there. (As I understand it, a cattle knife will have an equal end frame, while a Stockman is serpentine.)

But that's a neat looking dagger, any story behind this one?

Not much. Extrema Ratio made this back in 2018 as a replica of the originals used by the famous Arditi in WWI. Originally the word was that  2018 would be made but they are still available on their website so not sure about that. In any case mine is numbered as 318/2018 so at least the original batch followed that thinking.

Arditi daggar was closely studied by Mr Fairbairn and Mr Sykes some decades later. Unlike Fairbairn & Sykes knife the Arditi dagger was considered a main weapon of an Arditi storming enemy trenches. Their training picked wisdom from the old books such as Fiore dei Liberi so naturally I had to have one ;)

It is very well made and balanced blade. My only hope is that they would've made the handle just a tad longer to help other than ice pick and hammer grips (my understanding of Fiore dei Liberi is that saber grip is also present for dagger so presume that they learned that as well). Also to nitpick the very good but modern two piece Molle compatible cordura holster is a bit too modern to me, Especially since unlike some other ER products I'm not aware of any current forces been equipped with this. It is just a replica of a weapon once used in bygone age

I picked it for my opening since around this time of the year it normally is my favourite fixed blade. It is not a work blade but something to place into next to caffe corretto and Toscanini whilst sitting in the winter sunshine reading some historical stuff and to do some classic Italian knife drills/training trying to keep some of my fast fading reflexes and flexibility alive ;)

Day 2.

Mostly in bed today, fever and shivering the last 3 days. Cant stand it anymore.  :dunno:

Only use today was disasembling a heat radiator for our Kids diaper changing desk.
We dont need it anymore and my wifes cousin is pregnant and visits us today so she can have it together with the baby seat.

Tools used: mainblade for a ziptie holding the power cord together and can opener for a whole two screws.
Tools missed/cheated: none.

Dont think I will get up any more usage on that knife, so this is my daily report, a bit early.
