I'm in need of a distraction. If my hand could be dealt early that would be appreciated, if not no worries.

Just to simplify things, here are two pieces of info for anyone entering this challenge for the first time:

1) Any players could enter this challenge only needing 1 tool from each category--they are 1 SAK, 1 plier-based MT, 1 Traditional knife/Folder and 1 Fixed blade.  Of course, more tools in each category yields more option, subject to your hand/suits.

2) Please notice your hand (and suits) will dictate the max number of tools and the tool combination you can carry or choose from correspondingly.(Pls refer to the first post)  If you are allowed up to 5 tools, you don't have to carry all five, but any number from 1 to 5 tools.

This can be arranged.  ;)  And will be informative for the other new players.  :D  :tu:

I second this.
Due to tine difference it would be great to get my cards some time tomorrow to not fail on day one (or is this already planed and meant by day0?)

Yes! Day 00 is Dec 31. That way everyone can start the challenge on 01 January with a tool in his or her pocket. No one wants to be caught with out a tool!   :ahhh

Ok, I've dealt four starting hands for the guys who live on the early side of the date line. I'll deal the rest in the morning, mountain time.

These should get us started and serve as examples for everyone. It felt like I had a hot hand this evening! Sorry if tomorrow's hand is a bit cooler......that's lady luck!

With a pair of 8's, you can carry up to one traditional folder and one fixed blade!  :tu:
You will be able to draw up to three cards between Day 7 and the end of this round, the "Gummy Bear Round".  :D

With a pair of 4's you can carry up to one SAK and one Traditional pocket knife.  :tu:
Between Day 7 and the end of this round, you can exchange up to three card to try to improve your hand. I do see the possibility of an inside straight.....  :dunno:

Comis currently holds the winning hand.  :-\

Ace high. Echo, with an Ace of Diamonds, you can carry one well-chosen SAK.
Between Day 7 and the end of this round, you may exchange up to four (4) cards to improve your hand.  :tu:

Between Day 7 and the end of this round, you can exchange up to three (3) cards to try to improve your hand.  :salute:

And, ReamerPunch now holds the winning hand!   :ahhh

I think the list has fallen behind a page or two but please add my name to the list.  I took a couple of months off of challenges to rest up and I think I'm ready to take up the mantle again.

BPRoberts, if you're still shopping for EDC fixies I can tell you this, after more than a decade of trying to find the ideal EDC fixed blade I still haven't found it, but I think I'm close.  I just need to try a few more knives from a few more brands. I still compare everything else, however, to the CRKT Hunt'n Fisch.  It is right in what I've determined to be the sweet spot of around 7 inches with 4 inches of handle and 3 inches of  blade and it isn't too thick or too heavy.  Might as well have a look at one.

Appreciate the recc, Alan. Looks like a nice "medium" between some of the neck knives I've looked at, and something bigger like my KABAR.

Agree.  It is so much fun to watch to see everyone’s hands then their choices of tools and choice of new cards.  Sometimes even a decent poker hand didn’t mean you like the carry options or you may like your carry options even with a bad hand.

Either way Good Luck to All.

BPRoberts, I have a similar criteria as Alan, and another suggestion to a small fixed blade would be the Bobtail from Brisa.  Small sub 3" blade with FFG, a good compact handle with palm swell, and a very carriable kydex shealth.  The whole package is just about 4.4oz in total (with my vecro mod).

What's the velcro for? Just a handy spot to stick all things velcro, or something specific?

The velcro is used to wrap about the belt for a horizontal carry, I find this lightweight solution keeps the small blade flat and tight against the body, without too much profiling.

Got my basic setup ready.
Case Barlow
Bark River PSK with custom sheath
LM Pulse
Vic Deluxe Tinker.

Since I rarely carry fixed blades and I have an office job, I went sheeple friendly.
Depending on my luck I will add one or two blades, but this should cover the basics.
