Day 9

I used the bottle opener on the Armbar to help open a can.

These single serving cans of tuna are hard to pull open due to less leverage.  So I slid the bottle opener under the lid once I popped it open just to help lift it a little … so I wouldn’t have to pull too hard and risk getting tuna juice all over the place.

@nate J - I'm really liking that LionSteel.
 AC!

I’m really liking it as well, and it has pretty much become my work EDC for the month.  Having the bottle opener/screwdriver/light pry tool is much more useful than a second knife blade would be.

Other than the obviously limited tool set, I have nothing negative to say about it.

Day 9

It's a good can opener! Probably because of how tapered (almost swedgy) the blade is. I think the angle could be a little deeper to get a longer cut, but very usable.

Day 8

Glass bottle sodas awlways taste better (if they use cane sugar).
You definitely spurred a side topic.
I rarely drink soda, but soda with sugar are the way to go.  I’m always amazed when some people say there is no difference in taste, because to me the sugar vs corn syrup difference is very noticeable.
I notice that as well!

Many if not all countries ban the use of corn syrup in consumer products.

But, no not the USA.

I am type II diabetic, check my fast glucose every morning to know where I am starting the day.

It is very noticeable when in MEXICO, I do indulge with COKE, and I luv orange soda, and an occasional Sprite or 7-Up.  No corn syrup.  Even eating gourmet style entries and even ice cream for desert at a resort. My morning check is 30 mg or less below my home averages.

Within 5 days back home, even watching what I consume, my numbers drift higher each day.

Natural sugar has little effect on me, but there is corn syrup in everything we consume, and it does.

So, for a treat I do buy myself sodas from the international aisle at the market.  Flavors are even richer. 🥳
I am not diabetic, but find the impact of non-sugar sweeteners on glucose interesting.

I agree 💯 Gordon.  I try to avoid the stuff as much as possible.  It takes some doing for sure.

I love cane sugar Coke!

Day 9: Used the can opener to get the seal off this peanut butter container.
I too try to avoid corn syrup, as well as other artificial sweeteners, but it can be a challenge.
Nice work accessing the sweet goodness of your SKIPPY PEANUTBUTTER.

This may seem strange, but my household was fussy about PEANUTBUTTER.  Kids preferred JIFF over Skippy.

Kroger had a sale on PEANUTBUTTER, and wife purchased a few cases to donate to the church food bank.  I making a funny, you buy JIFF to feed your kids and yet give store brand to other people!

Well a few days later at breakfast, two of the children had peanutbutter toast, both said at the same time, “new PEANUTBUTTER???   It is way better flavor than the other stuff, but again!”

She smiled and stuck in my face, a KROGER PEANUTBUTTER JAR!!!

We then upgraded, and just a few weeks ago when on sale again I tried the Honey version by Kroger brands. :woohoo:   $1/jar good value.
Many Kroger brand foods are as good if not better than name brand.  Food Lion also has some really good store brand products.

I swapped between two--the Red Ryder Camp Knife (made by Colonial in the late '90s) and the Mikov Praktik (forgot which model--but it's a Forester clone).

Day 8

I was a little disappointed when I got the LM T2 in hand, and realized the main body of the tool was plastic.  It’s holding up so far and keeps the weight down I suppose, but looks and feels cheap.

Day 9

I picked up this NoBox multitool from the Surprise GAW Box sometime last year, I think.  It's a good looking multitool but the scissors aren't too great.

It cuts paper ok but once again, you need to be deliberate and help the blades meet towards each other a bit.  Similar to the Quirky Switch but not as bad.  It did a hair better on double card stock.

The blade had no issues opening a package and the saw did ok but I think it would do better on greener wood.

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

I do have to admit bourbon or whiskey does help Dr Pepper taste real good despite the corn syrup.   A little coconut rum is also real good in Jarritos, but they don’t need it because they are great by themselves.

It does look nice.  I’m convinced scissors are one of the hardest tools to make work well.  Maybe that is why many companies don’t even try.

Day 8
Since it is a SAK-a-Like challange here's another 'not quite' item...
This is my homemade take on the RipSpool made from a cheap match safe and some random stuff I had hanging around.
DuckTape, heavy thread, 12lb monoline, 75lb nylon bankline and 3 needles

This little kit is usually in my bag, occasionaly pocket.
I used to be a lot of things, and someday will again.
But for now I'm just a lost jack of trades with neither mastery nor home. ~NoaIsumi

Day 10

I think my Ruff Rida is falling apart.  I took a photo of the outrageously pointy awl in the pocky nife and noticed that the shackle had FALLEN OFF!  Completely gone.  Pivot pin and all.  I hope I don't step on it.
I checked all the other fold outs and they look just like they did.  I do recall some routine maintenance being done on the shackle.  There is an image of a person, or possibly persons unspecified using a mini grinder to do a shackle pin smoothing up.  Normal stuff.  After some of that, there is an image in my mind of testing the pliers of a Leatherman on the shackle and possibly the pin.  Not too sure about the last part.  That's all I remember.
Well, I shouldn't have expected anything different.  All my stuff seems to fall apart.  If I happen to find the annoying shackle, I suppose I could cobble it back together.  Probably have to use a nail to make another pivot pin.  There has been one surprising result of this happy accident.  The cute thing is much easier to handle now.  Feels nicer in the pocket.
I have been using the SAK-a- like to mostly open mail.  I did cut some chunks of matted together duct tape off a clothesline.  Nothing photo worthy.  How about an awl photo?  This thing isn't really sharp, but the pointy end is deadly.  Nice reach on that tool.  Also the 'propeller' shield in the handle.  Rider spelled with an 'I' and not a 'Y'.  I never owned a 'Y' model.  I might have to write a letter to them about their shackle construction problem.
Best wishes,
G

Most of the time we pick up the store's peanut butter, which needs stirred.  Pam gets this to use in her breakfast smoothie, and it was handy!
I seem to recall an ad from Jiff that kids preferred their brand to Skippy  :D.  I've had Kroger peanut butter. I liked it!

I saw a suggested procedure if you use natural peanut and how to avoid having to stir it because of separation.

Place the jar of natural peanut butter in the refrigerator, stored LID SIDE DOWN!

Does not separate or if it does, it is at the bottom when you spoon it out.   It from a smoothie person too!
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Even though I will not get the batch then, at least it was a reason for me to buy me this Böker Techtool which is actually a quite nice piece of equipment..

Day 10

Opened a bag of candy at work to share.  The scissors did the job but not as cleanly as Victorinox scissors.

Funny thing happened though. I had the same small can of tuna that I needed to open - the one that splashes fish juice all over the place because it’s too small to peel open with the pull tab. I thought I was being silly by using a tool to open it so I figured I’d try to act normal and just  open it by hand.  Mission failed successfully. I got the can open and splashed fish parts all over the place including my eyeball.   Next time I will be more careful.

Day 9

The blade on the LM T2 is pedestrian 420HC.

It locks with the same interesting mechanism that locks all the other tools.

OHO is not well done though.  The blade has too much resistance to opening, and the thumb hole is too small/not designed correctly.  Sometimes I am able to OHO it; other times I resort to 2HO.

While the edge of the T2’s awl is sharp, the point is inexplicably not.  It looks to me like it is flat on purpose.

I just don’t understand the logic.

Decide to make a KBMT with only four tools ->  :tu:

Decide one of those tools should be an awl ->  :tu:

Decide the awl shouldn’t have a sharp point ->

Day 9 (catching up)

Yesterday was a hellaciously busy day for me, and to be fair, these photos were taken the night before. But I got some awl usage in.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Nate and Bob noted that the Leatherman T2's awl needs a rethink. The same is true for the Swiza's awl. It's too short to go completely through a nicotine pouch can (though in their defense, boring holes in such things is not typical awl usage). The awl is difficult to extract from the cut material if it goes in too deeply. And check out the jagged hole it leaves behind! :o

Wow.  Upon closer inspection of the LM website, you’re absolutely correct.  That is stupid.  And in violation of what should be a basic MT design tenet:  secondary functions added to tools should not compromise the primary function.

But, this may not even be the worst design choice on the T2.  Stay tuned!
