It just makes waiting on the S.H.O.T. show all the more exciting.  We of all people should be behind our multitool makers.  Just stare at the red light Tommy Lee is holding and all will be well in the morning.  Oh and I did not see the pix either but am willing to wait.

Def,

Since I'm relatively new to the forum please don't take this question the wrong way.  But when you mentioned in an earlier post that Leatherman has been quite good to us, what did you mean?  Do they give site members special promotions that I wasn't aware of?  I have no intention of spreading that picture, I didn't even save a copy.  But when I read that, it made me wonder if there was something I was missing out on.

I love this forum, there are a lot of funny and interesting people with a great deal of knowledge of things that interest me.  Instead of harming Leatherman they need to recognize that we support them not only by discussing their products but by buying them and LOTS of them.  I consider myself a novice compared to most in here and I have 30 Leatherman tools.  We're not their average one or two tool consumers, we are the people that have many, many of their tools so of course the scent of new tools in the air is going to raise interest.  I hope they release their new line early in 2010.

I don't think Leatherman is worried about us. They would be concerned about their competitors gleaming new designs and producing a counter product.

As for their being good to us, only Def can fully answer that. However, one recent highlight that comes to mind was the fundraising for the Philippine flood victims. Leatherman was kind enough to donate a Damascus Wave. That was very classy of them.
A little Leatherman information.

I have no problems with any questions!  :D  We have a long standing history with most of the major manufacturers, and Leatherman is no exception.

Most recently, when we were auctioning off stuff to donate to the Red Cross:

http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,14191.0.html

Leatherman jumped in and added a tool with an MSRP of $500 to the pile, which pulled in a significant amount of money to help out the flood victims.  In fact, just under half the money we raised came from that one tool.  I would also like to point out that I never went to them and asked for anything, they cruise this forum on a regular basis, saw what we were doing and decided to help out.

For our anniversary, Leatherman also had several banners made up congratulating us on making it to three years.  All the manufacturers and dealers I communicate with were invited to join in any way they liked, and many did.  Leatherman also gave us some nice products to give away.

At the 2009 SHOT Show Leatherman was kind enough to give me advanced prototype Freestyles so we could get reviews of them up before anyone else.  That's why, when you see the Freestyle Review on the main page they aren't the same Freestyles as you see everywhere else.

Leatherman also broke the news of the ST300 publicly with us, sending me the info before anyone else had it.

These are just a few of the things that Leatherman has done lately, and while you can pass some of it off as marketing (surely getting advance info to rabid collectors is a good idea?) other stuff, like the banners are just mutual respect.  Let's face it, none of us need a link to find Leatherman's homepage, and none of us are buying any more or less Leatherman products simply because we saw a banner here.

Leatherman also often comes to us with ideas and wants our opinions on them before taking them any further.  Much of the time you don't know they are doing it, but they do.

All in all, I think we have a great working relationship with Leatherman, and it hasn't impacted the site's independence, which I value above anything else.

The best contribution I've seen from Leatherman on here was from the man himself when he totally confused us with information about the PST!

That was pretty cool.

Def,

Thanks for the answer.  I truly was curious because I didn't know all they had done.  I was hoping the way I asked the question didn't come off as sarcastic.  It's good to know they do surf the forum for insight.  Now I hope they will read me pleading with them to put a bit driver on the Freestyle:D   Thanks again for the explanation.

Yes I do. I can't be exact, but I'd be surprised if more than 20 - 30 of my tools have been bought new, and only 3 that I can think of have been bought at UK prices.

I'm pretty sure tha my collection is worth a lot more than I paid for it anyway.

Just  :pok: Dave. The fact that anyone can pick up almost new Riveted PST for $20-$30 is pretty amazing. Most of my unusual MT's I have been bought have been cheaper than 'New' MT's. My brother in-law spent $1000 on a card board foot ball card. :ahhh :ahhh.
I really hope LM brings out all those little lovely tools. :D

Psst.........DaveK.......tell me where you get your MT's so cheap.  I promise not to tell anyone.   :D   I saw a brand new PST II go for $45 today on eBay.  I think shipping was included.  I was going to get it so I had one with the PST II stamp and one without it.  But after paying $22 for the one I have that is in unused condition I figured I could wait.  We'll see.

I'm pretty sure Dave got quite a few of his LM's from this site.  I could be wrong, but this site is an excellent source for the trader, buyer, and seller in all of us.  You don't have to pay dues every year to use it, and lets face it, if you're looking for an MT someone has it on here and is probably looking to get rid of it for the right price.  Now with EDCSOURCE up and running, its even easier to see what everyone else it selling or trading.  Now if someone would just trade me a Sebbie.

I said that without moving my lips! Spot on Zack.

Losing ebay was a real blow, and my collecting has slowed down to a crawl lately because of that, but the guys on here are great at helping us out :tu:

I think at any point in time I've usually got 3 or 4 trades on the go, although trades don't actually grow your collection as you have to give stuff away!

I woulden't go too crazy looking for the photos since it was pretty poor quality anyways.  The "official" one I guess will be out soon so that should be a lot better.
