Took a punt on a Ebay SAK for sale locally, photo & description had me not sure what it was  . Here is the Ebay photo that had me

$14.95 latter I have a almost new Champion  :o 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) :D :D.
I asked the seller if he had any other SAKs & I jumped at a watch maker  & a Wenger. The Vic watch maker has a small notch in the small blade but the Wenger looked new  8) 8). A almost new Champion for $14.95 , very happy Mat  :D

Heinz Doofenshmirtz very kindly sent me a Rambler. Thank you, sir!

It's my first 58mm. My hubby has carried a classic for years (and recently switched to a Micra), so I'm familiar with the size of the tool. The small phillips works well on electronics, and I will be testing the cap lifter this evening on 'Adult Beverages'. :D

Thanks again, Heinz!

.... finally I got some SAC pins to show ...  ;)

(Image removed from quote.)

I love those pins! I wonder if any of those made it across the pond, over here, to America?

I don't think we know its official name yet.  I got the black one.  I'd be tempted to call it a Rover-Golfer for now.

Congrats Lynn. That is the model folks get who liked the Classic, but always wished for a bottle opener on a small SAK or wished for the blade to open away from the keys. I think that model is getting more and more popular. If it were as widely distributed as the Classic, I bet the Rambler would be the new sales champ.

Amici,
You know one of those will be my next purchase just as long as I can get it with some alox scales which look extremely sharp on this model.

Cheers,

I often use available scale colours as a very non-scientific indicator of model popularity. Using that, it seems to me it is not the Rambler, but the (very similar) Manager which is the black horse behind the Classic. I think most people prefer a small pen for that odd signature instead of a toothpick as well.

Personally, I think the layout of the Rambler puts it in a completely different position of usefulness than the Classic. To me, the Classic is an excellent pair of scissors with a knife and some stuff attached, while the Rambler is a little big knife with extra tools.  :climber:

The Rambler and Manager are excellent little tools. I have a Manager permanantly attached to my car keys, and have an Alox Rambler ... though that doesn't see as much fresh air as it should really. To be honest I tend to find myself carrying a stainless Wenger Pocket Tool Chest for mini SAK duties. Another excellent little tool - I love the little eyeglass driver and awl  :tu:

Boy, I sure can relate to that! I got an alox Rambler thinking that I would use it to replace my black Classic that has been on my key ring forever. Au contraire! I couldn't live without my toothpick & tweezers, even though I rarely ever use either of them and always have a 91mm Vic near by.

It's funny how you just get used to having certain things in certain places. When they're not there I feel out of balance. I may have to give the Rambler another go of it because it really is a nice little kit. One thing I especially like about the Rambler is that the tip of the Phillips screwdriver is magnetized. A very handy feature if you're working with a very small screw!

Here's my Rambler...

And here's the tried and true Classic...

I feel like I'm hi-jacking this thread since the topic is what's your latest SAK. So, I'll close by saying that my latest is a Safari Trooper that should be in the mail tomorrow and headed my way. I'm looking forward to trying the saw on that Trooper since I'm a 108mm virgin. I have a couple of the 111's but I have never actually held a 108mm. It should be here around Thursday or Friday. That's my latest!

Cheers to all!

Lynn,

Glad you like the Rambler!  As I mentioned before, it had a love/hate relationship with it...  I love the little combo tool, but the small size of everything else just drove me nucking futs...  :ahhh

I pocket carry my Executive all the time now, and even though it doesn't have a bottle opener or a dedicated phillips driver, the tip of the nail file works well for small phillips screws that don't need a lot of torque, and I typically have another tool either on me or near by for opening bottles.

Now I don't have to decide which to carry all the time... it's always my Exec.  Now I only have to figure out which of my other, full size SAK's to carry as well... Work Champ?  Outrider?  Compact?  Swiss Champ?...  ???

An old Master Craftsman. It needs a little work. I think it will end up losing the shackle. I have to find an old blade for it.

I feel the exact same way about my Executive.  It is ALWAYS on my keys.  I don't even think about it, it's just there.  The larger SAK is what I need to choose each day.......

At a guess I'd say it was a gardening specific knife, like for taking root cuttings.

Someone else will know :)

That knife is for grafting roses and other plants.
To cut in the bark a T and open the bark with the back top of the knife
and place a small button of another rose in the opening.
One side of the knife is must be a flat side to cut the buttons right from the rose.
Inoculate knife, if my translation is well.
I have worked with it many times in my younger years.

Probably paid too much given the condition but overall it's not horrible.  Any suggestions our tips for fixing it up for carry and use?

It is Grafter. There are several different models with different blades, but they don't have individual names.

It's only old from now on. :) New scales, and replaced the toothpick. Metal parts polished, lubed, and the little dent repaired. :)
