Day 18:

Another coffee cup improvement moment:

Do people still eat Marmite?  I thought since Vegemite was now widely available, we had all switched to the better product.   :dunno:

Day 18

Evogrip 18 today. Used it to open some bacon for breakfast. Sliced up some wood duck breast to make some duck hash, also for breakfast. Later used the can opener/screwdriver to tighten some hinges. I find the opener/driver easier to use than the back mounted phillips most of the time. I used the s52 scissors to open snacks for coffee break. Looks like a food focused day.

Does that pepper spray only work on Brits?

I had to look on Urban Dictionary to understand what you were talking about.  "Pom" really doesn't mean anything here in The Colonies.

I make some wicked good Ginger snaps.

...more like spice cookies, but with a heavy dose of ginger and clove.

Haha, yeah, we don't use it here either.  I've got a couple of good "mates" from that end of the globe, I've picked it up from them.  As well as countless other colourful expressions that I can't use around here without drawing blank expressions and/or confused laughter.

Very nice collection mate :like:

I'm a big Vegemite fan. Have one open jar and a back-up in the pantry!

I like it on toast or crackers, but it also makes a nice addition to soups, stews, and sauces.

The first time I tried it I used way too much and thought it was horrible. They key is to start using it sparingly....really, really sparingly. After a while I started using more and more. Now I seem to have developed a craving for it. Good stuff!  :tu:

I was trying some when I was at my friends down under, he warned me not to put it on too thick!  I actually didn't mind it.  So my wife (also Canadian) and I rented a car to drive to Canberra to see the capital.  We stopped at this little town that had a full sized submarine at a park next to the road (we were hours away from the ocean, lol).  We stopped for a little snack at a diner, so I thought I'd order a Vegemite sandwich (and yes, I heard that song in my head as I ordered).  It came out cut into 4 pieces diagonally across the bread, the cook figured it must have been for a child.  My mate thought it was hilarious that I'd ordered Vegemite at a restaurant!

Day 18
More garage work today, but no use for a SAK.  I got out my little collection of M61s.  You can tell by the dates, but only the 64 and 75 are Wengers.  Too bad the blade and can opener on the 64 have been modified, but the scales are in great shape.  The Thylacine is keeping an eye things, to continue the Aussie theme.

Day 17

Use wise I opened some food packets and the package some survival cord came in. Pictures wise, extorting animal cuteness:

(Image removed from quote.)

:like: That is too cute....I like the hedgehog as well  :D

Day 17 - yesterday

A lazy day, beer festival from midday so a rest for the Wengers.

Beer festival, now you're talking

Day 18.

Ditching the old Commander in favour of...the near identical evowood 10.  :D   Also realised that my day-to-day watch really deserves a mention here.

(Image removed from quote.)

Very nice indeed  :like:  :tu:

I can eat anything with enough hot sauce.

That'd be quite a combo!

DAY 18:  Excitement!  Thrills!  Using the can opener for a second time in one challenge!  :woohoo:

(Image removed from quote.)

Nice clean cut  :hatsoff:

Sorry, I'm just going to interject here - Nix... you sick smurf.

I know.  All that time wasted on Vegemite when people really should be eating Marmite.  ::)

I like Marmite too, prefer Vegemite but good for a change

I'd never heard of Marmite until operation desert storm. I got attached to some Brits to provide heavy recovery assets. They hooked me up and showed me what I was missing out on. Nobody else in my house will touch it.    :dunno:
Those desert rats also introduced me to Bovril.

We're going to need a "yeast extract" challenge

Wenger Basic 62.  Basically a synonym to the Vic Waiter, but without the corkscrew.  Vic no longer produce the 1 layer in the Delemont series, and I surely hope they will continue to make 1 layer Vic SAKs, since they are pretty unique and an easy pocket carry.

Day 18: errand running followed by sitting on my rear. Little use, which means opening my medicine in the morning.

Yup. A good test is when I forget to take it out of my sweatpants pocket when I go to bed, and then don't notice it until I get up in the morning. That means it's slim and light enough to be unnoticeable. The Waiter and Bantam both pass this rule. My next SAK purchase will be an Alox Bantam.

Day 18

Got some new survival cord in, so the Evowood 17 attempted to trim the end so I could look at the core, the scissors were so terrible I just used a Classic to finish the job  :dunno:

The cord has the same 7 strands normal 550 cord uses, but it also has a cotton thread for sewing, fishing line (40lb), and a waxed flax thread for tinder. I used the amount cut off here for a fire test and once fluffed got it to catch light without much bother  :tu:

Check out my Youtube channel  for gear reviews, comparisons, and carry philosophy.

Recently I did a very quick and imprecise Delemont scissors test, similar survival cord was one of the tests and had no problem

I’m beginning to wonder if there’s a QC issue with them as I tried to cut some thin plastic bag handles with an Evo18 recently and it didn’t work well at all, VIC scissors cut it easily. Tried Evo14 and no problem :dunno:

I think one of the great uses for a Swiss Army Knife is to scratch away mistakes on paper when you write with a pen.
I have a collection of fountain pens, and been making good use of my S17 as an ink eraser.
At Victorinox they talk about the "pen blade" that was included in their early Swiss Officer knives.  The little
blade was useful for neatly scraping away the ink when mistakes were made in absence of White Out.
The Evolution S17 doesn't have a pen blade, but the main blade is plenty sharp and still compact and precise enough to
scrape away the fine lines on the surface of the paper with enough control so as not to make a hole in the page.  Works good.

Pepper spray and a lightweight, packable backpack.
I hope there was some packing material in the box that didn't make its way into the photo!

...nothing exciting...
Maybe true with the mail...but that knife is a thing of beauty!

My next SAK purchase will be an Alox Bantam.
Good choice...but in what color?

Recently I did a very quick and imprecise Delemont scissors test, similar survival cord was one of the tests and had no problem.
They still have the Duracell Bunny in Australia?

The show must go on...

Day 18

Got some better photos of the saw in action today. Save for lack of a vise, I had no issues cutting this little strip of lumber at all!
USN 2000-2006

Culling of the knife and multi herds in progress...

If I pay five figures for something, it better have wings or a foundation!

Thanks Echotech.  I agree, I think an alox would be a nice addition.  The Farmer X would make a good trio with the S17 and Huntsman I would think.  :iagree:
