DAY 9:

Caught up.  An old (50s?) Highlander with bail, cut file and dog leg can opener, next to a "modern" Commander.

Very cool  :like: :tu:
I cut up my wife's old coat (with her permission of course!  :D ) with the Evolution S17 scissors.
Considering how really small it is next to a full size scissors, it's performance is impressive I think.
The Victorinox scissors on my Swiss Champ and Compact are amazing, and unfortunately for the Wenger style serrated scissors, greatly overshadowed by it.  But I think the serrated scissors are very good in it's own right, and I think there is a technique to it.  If the Victorinox scissors are a 10, I would rate the serrated scissors a solid 8.

With the serrated scissors, I notice the arm that runs back to the back springs to give it the spring back is offset to the right where it makes contact with the scissor blade/handle (nail nick piece).  This slight offset provides a little torsion to push the blades together.  I find when I cut a piece of thick cloth, sometimes the cloth folds in between the blades.  If you press a little to the left with your thumb as you press the scissor handle down, it keeps the blades together and cuts much better.  For normal cutting of paper and light cloth you don't need to do this, but when you encounter something a little thicker or more stubborn, this little side pressure with your thumb makes a big difference and will prevent the folding, and give those serrated teeth more leverage to cut through.  I don't encounter the issue with some fabrics and plastic wrapper paper folding between the blades any more with this technique.

See my other post "Evolution series Wenger style scissors expectations"

Excellent test Max and think that’s a fair assessment  :tu: :tu:

Day 09
We had a power failure this evening.  Thankfully I made a pot of coffee before the lights went out.  Also, it was cool out so we could open the windows for a few hours.

Day 10

Mowed the lawn and Commander cleaned my nails after I took this shot, then used Evo18 tweezers to remove the foil on some coriander for the curry I’ve just cooked

Hope you get power back soon Alan. Looks like you’re properly organized with the lamp :like:

Some years ago where I lived we’d get them a lot so i invested in a rechargeable lamp, a wind up radio and a back up power supply that I can run 12v tv from, power up phones etc. Made a lot of difference to the experience, particularly when they could last longer than 24 hours …always seem to hit when I’ve just stocked the fridge and freezer :ahhh

Day 09

Evowood 17 freed this wee lad from plastic prison today: Ohto Minimo mechanical pencil. I also used the the nail cleaner to pry up some clips to rearrange a cable on a headlamp.

I did use tweezers from my Compact to help clean out my CPU cooler, worrying noises prompted so pain in the smurf downtime today

Thanks for the concern. The power had already been restored when I posted.  Our longest time without was a full month after a hurricane. I have a generator that I ran for 16 - 18 hours a day, only stopping for refueling and oil changes and to bring it inside overnight so it wouldn't get stolen.  I won't bother to bring out the generator until the power has been out for more than a couple of days because it's usually fixed within 3 or 4 hours.

Day 10
October 10

I did say that I miss the Vic can opener as alternative philips driver when the inline won’t bite properly. Here’s my alternative: the magnifying glass driver tip. It doesn’t slip from my target screw as much as the inline philips.
Take note that:
1) I can’t go pretty deep with it as the mag lenses get in the way.
2) I have to remind myself to engage the tool with the back springs on top otherwise if it’s tool side facing up, it’s bound to close/fold on me.

Tet, Park Tools are great, and as for not being the cyclist I am, neither am I these days! Beer, age, beer…..

Great work everyone and fab pics! :tu:

Day 10

This morning’s ride seemed to go faster than normal, which usually means I’m way slower than normal! Anyhow, far fewer cars out hunting for fuel in the gloom unlike the previous two weeks. Well breakfast consumed, enjoying a cappuccino but now it’s time to get cooking again wit a pasta sauce to put into ramekins in the freezer - Evo 23 is helping out, here cutting open some peppercorns to refill my pepper grinder.

Great photo!
You’re doing better than me, the last game I was at was 2018.

Cheers! Yeah, it's pretty much what I do with my spare time and I'm lucky that in between various restrictions I've been able to get to more than a lot of people. A shame we got beat again, but you can't have it all.

Thanks mate! I’m nothing like the cyclist you are, but I’ve started doing a lot more and was looking into different tools.  I saw the park tools come up a lot.  I found the Vic PB tools bike tool last year for 1/2 price, so I ride with that and of course I’ll have a SAK with me :)
  What brings you over here?  My step father was from London, for his last 25 years he enjoyed the Jays games if home in the evening.
I wasn’t around for that one, but it’s a beauty!

Good uses guys, you’ve been busy since I went to bed last night!

I have extensive experience raiding the refrigerator. I'd go so far as to say that I'm an expert.

Day 9

Been to a game of football today. The advantage of being a volunteer is that I don't get checked on the way in and I'm about early so I can easily take photos like this...

(Image removed from quote.)
Nice view, it does pay off with the volunteering! :tu:

DAY 9:

Caught up.  An old (50s?) Highlander with bail, cut file and dog leg can opener, next to a "modern" Commander.
I was always curious as to how well that old style can opener worked.  Great piece to have in your collection.
Same question... :pok:

Wow, living electricity without a month must be a real challenge back then, it's one thing if you plan to live without it for 'fun', but totally another animal if you are stuck in that situation.  Glad to see the electricity is already backed on.

Day 10

Most of my Sunday was spent cleaning out the garage. Various tasks for the Wenger.
Took this in the dark, just before bed.

Mike Horn's Evo 17.  The scales are made of recyclable products, and unlike the Evo S17, the Evo 17 doesn't have a locking blade.

DAY 10:

A couple of mint Fire Highlanders.  Nothing prettier than a Wenger with translucent red scales.
The bottom one is NIB and still has the protective plastic film over the scales.
