Day 13.

Milwaukee work gloves, anti-crush version. I originally bought these for handling and stacking heavy metal parts as I've earlier had uncomfortable squeezes when something slips or the fingers happen to end up as the soft stops between hard surfaces coming together.

Anyway, when my parents had an issue closing their garage port these gloves happened to be in the car so I wore them. The garage problem was the port wouldn't close. So, having watched Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear, I knew the solution - more power.  Hence I grabbed onto the garage port as best I could and decided to step on some handle as well to put all the weight on it. And success - suddenly the garage port almost closed! Just almost though as one of my hands, and the fingers on my other hand, ended up squeezed and utterly stuck at the very top of the garage port opening. The springs on these ports are serious as gigantic mouse traps - I was just hanging freely with my feet dangling on the outside of the port. And with both hands totally locked up, and thus helpless, I did what any self-respecting macho man does and cried for mama!

My hand looked like a balloon afterwards and so did my fingers on the other hand. Swollen and sore - but amazingly nothing was broken. I credit that to these gloves as I'm convinced any other work gloves I have would not have protected me against gigantic mouse traps. So thanks for that Milwaukee!

My mother past away on Tuesday very early...
I'm sorry to hear that. My deepest condolences.

I like the locking blade on the Workchamp XL... my favorite feature of the 111 size.

 I'd love to find an NOS Motorist at a price I can afford.

However, I found a very good use when I got home this evening  :drink:
:iagree: One of the better uses for a multi!

Another great day, as usual! :2tu:

Day 12

Today we'll take a look at some of the tools I use when working with paracord.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

The Gerber Suspension NXT (with the oft-used tools opened) and Bic are pretty obvious. The funny spatula thing is a "smoothing tool," used for finishing off the ends. There are three fids, or lacing needles, for various sizes of cord. Finally, there is a "knotter's tool" that serves as a marlinspike. Its handle is hollow, so the fids can be stored inside.

Day 12
Jeep kit
So I don't offroad any more, and my daily isn't really a full fledged "Jeep" despite the logo, but I still like to have tools.
To secure them is a 30in Stanley/Proto 30in steel carpenters box that fits great in the cargo area and secures to the child seat anchors with a pair of cam straps I had.

*even found a multitool I was looking for burried in here

The screwdriver on my Armbar Drive does not bother me nearly as much as the subpar scissors.

Yeah, Gerber scissors are not that great :(

Oh, wow!  :like:  That's much better looking than the official photos on Buck's website.  I love the Saunter, but I passed on the July BotM because I didn't like the handles.  I kind of hope they're sold out now because I am very tempted to buy one.

I have an armbar or two. The driver is okay, but they're just kind of rough all around. The newer ones are a bit better than the older, so maybe we'll get a generation three. If nothing else, I respect Gerber's willingness to try something. I think the MPs have better scissors, as befitting a company owned by Fiskars.

That's quite a multi Noa.

Day 12

Weekend carry, not everyday. I've seen more and more events where the hosts/organizers tell people to bring flasks lately, so I bought myself a little nicer one than the no-name metal one I had in college. It's fun to get a half dozen guys together and taste whatever everyone's brought, and it's got that taboo roaring 20s panache going for it.

Day 12

Just a few things I never leave home without.

The Minichamp and the folding readers I carry everyday regardless of whether I step out of the house or not.  I started carrying the Minichamp, as part of my EDC, after the Minichamp challenge.  It's a more capable urban tool than I gave it credit for.  I carry it in a green leather slip I picked up on Ebay.

I always carry my folding readers around as I'm always using them.  I wanted readers that I could put in my pocket without damaging them or without them being obtrusive.  This folding pair I picked up on Amazon fit the bill.

Finally, it's always good to carry a handkerchief.  You'll never know when you need to clean up some baby spit, sweat, blood, or wipe a woman's tear.

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

Day 13: had to replace a headlight xenon bulb on my Audi A3 hatchback. Should be easy, right? No. The Audi repair instruction says to disassemble the car's entire front (remove the bumper etc), remove the headlights, replace the bulb and put it all back together. Then re-calibrate the headlights.  :twak:

Luckily there's a way around this 1.200 EUR repair: take off the wheel, remove the wheel arch liner and fiddle the new bulb in from behind... Took me almost two hours to replace the bulbs, spent most time fighting with the wire clips holding the bulbs in place as well as putting the connector cables back on.

But at least I could use my tools a little:

Day 13

A very rare outing for the Victorinox Swisstool today.

I don’t dislike it, and it’s obviously very well made, but I really struggle to get any of the blades or tools out with my chewed fingernails.

The usual Leathermans kept it company, a Raptor and a Micra both living in the pockets of my work hi-via for night shifts.

Leaders.  I was the first.  Then so more members could play the game, I handed off to powernoodle and stepped away from the whole thing.  No more input from me.  Noodle did his set of rules and handed off to whoever he chose completely independently.  Same with the next in line.  The next Leader gets to play their own hand, and then choose someone for the next stage.
It just so happens that I do know who the next couple of Leaders are.  I believe I mentioned who the next in line was in an earlier post.  Maybe we should let them be anonymous.  If they want to say who they are, that is up to them.
There will be one additional mini-challenge during the month that doesn't follow the 5 day cycle.
Look for a post about it on or about June 18.
Best wishes.  G

Madness! Almost make me suspect there is one instruction manual for users (hard), and one for workshops with lift (easy), to drive people to the workshops.

At least you got to use your Stahlwille set.

It's looking like I'll be doing just that,  GA.  My daughter just told us that she's going to move to Georgia with her boyfriend so he can try to get custody of his 2 girls.  And all this time she'll have 2 of our grandkids.

They'll have no jobs, no place to stay and I have no idea what they're planning and I'm worried about my granddaughters.

I'll have to make something that they can keep up with that will remind them that we love them....

I don't know what I would do if our youngest daughter did that with her three kids. My wife and I play a big role in raising them. They are a handful to deal with, but I miss them sorely if I don't see them for a few days.

Hoping for the best for you and your granddaughters, PC.

Day 5 Makeup

I’ve had this since the late 1960’s.  Probably 1968.  Initially bought and used for the nut holding the ground wire to the contact points in the ignition distributor  for my 1959 Bugeye.
This did come from the period when they did not count the case as a piece. The 10th wrench was not in the picture.

Day 13 Post

Friend IMR Gary posted about X-Acto tools.  That set me on a search for an old set I bought when I was about 12 yo.  It took a while to save enough $$ to purchase this set.  It also took a while to decide to part with the $$ for it.
Note the nice detailed dovetailing of the box corners.  It does have a bit of wear.
