Day 13

No. 10 on cigar duty.

Many seem to find their Opinel sweet spot is a No. 6, 7, or 8.  For me, though, the No. 10 is the Goldilocks knife of the Opinel lineup.

First, the handle:  The No. 10 handle is a great fit for my hand.  The No. 8 seems somewhat too small and cramped, while the No. 12 feels a bit ungainly.

Then, the blade:  At right around 4”, the No. 10 has enough blade to make short work of virtually any task that might reasonably be expected of a folder.

At 2.5 oz, it is quite light for a folder its size.

Now, if Opinel would only take the No. 12 Explore blade and put it in a synthetic handle that is the same size as the No. 10 handle (instead of a No. 12 handle like the existing Explore  )…

Salmon looks good. How are you preparing it. I normally grill it on a Cedar or Alder plank. Just curious how they do it over in your neck of the woods.
It was really just quick dinner, nothing special.
We prepared bowl of vegetable salad (mixture of tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers with olive oil and some spices). Then I prepared the salmon on electric grill that we have in the kitchen. Once it is done I put also some spices on that together with a lemon. That’s it. Like 15mins to prepare.

Day 14
I had a chance to take the pruner around and test it by removing tree suckers. While I was out I did some tests on different thicknesses of green bamboo. Very impressive. The blade is closer to the No 9 in thickness  so it feels quite robust. Finished the session by doing some fire prep and messing around carving.   [ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Thanks for sharing. Your dinner sounded really good. I may have convinced the family to do grilled Salmon on Saturday. Since it is Spring, Chinook Salmon should be coming up the Columbia River.

Day 14

Heavy storms started about 3 Am and continued for most of the day.

Between the flash’s and booms, worked on files and disposing of old items.  Started with the No6 Walnut and then ended the day with the No8 outdoor emergency use.

If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

All of my older opinels just fall out, where the wood has worn away at the pivot. I have been installing match sticks for years to get the blades to bite when closed..... nothing worse than having an open folder in the pocket  :ahhh

Mine are so old they do not have the lock closure when folded......hmmm I feel a modified No8 will be happening soon

(Image removed from quote.)(Image removed from quote.)(Image removed from quote.)
That is a nice solution to keep them closed. Mine do have the closed lock, but it will be a whole different ballgame once the action is loose enough that the blade can move on its own.
Your wallet is looking good, I can’t wait to see the final product.

Day 15

Invited to a hike brunch on Sunday.  Broke out my never used Picnic kit, to wash up the utensils.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

I will be dining in style😁. Now looking for my collapsible bowl🙄. Paper plates are pain and food is serious business!!!

PS: I know it has been called out before, The Utensils do not fit the No8 Explorer, as the blade pivot is to wide. For planning Opinel!🥲
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Yes, it is unfortunate and I can’t think about a good reason for that…
